Hello, so I am looking to buy a new laptop soon and I really liked the asus zenbook ux501 but the problems I heard about the high resolution sort of put me off, is this still an issue?
I would really hate to have super small icons and such... If possible I would like everything to be the same size as it is with my 1080p notebook. I do not mind some minor problems with random apps that I will never use but Skype, Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Media Player Classic, Steam for example have to look right. I also use RPG maker and Paint Tool sai but I'm not sure you would know about those... ;_;
Furthermore I am an animation student and I sometimes play games if that helps at all...? '-'
Also by the way does the laptop come with any free version of Microsoft Word or will I have to buy it?

I have had no problems with the higher resolution outside of Adobe Photoshop CS6, which I managed to hack to display correctly.

Gaming in 4k will be difficult to deal with because the graphics card is not powerful enough to handle gaming in 4k. However, there is another version of this laptop with a 1080p screen. I don't think that it comes with a free Microsoft Word.

There are still scaling issues even in Windows 10, so yes: things will look tiny. You can blow everything up (not literally) by adjusting the DPI setting up to 150% - 200%, or you can simply lower the resolution back down to 1920 x 1080, but this neither of these is ideal.
Microsoft Word - or Office, for that matter - usually comes included only as a trial version. If there are any special bundles with the full version, those are usually retailer-specific. -
I have the 4k version and do not regret it.
4k video is fine and though gaming did work at 4k I didn't see the point as I could see the designers did not a a 4k experience in mind and so to use it was a waste of CPU cycles. -

Well GPU cycles as the 4k performance will be pretty minimal at best except for much older titles.
