    Hey All,

Just wondering how everyone else is getting along with the GA502. It being one of the few laptops with the new Ryzen 3750H and 1660Ti.

Haven't had any issues so far.

I'm getting this annoying high pitched coil whine. Replaced laptop twice and still the same issue.

Anyone picked one of these up yet? If so what's your configuration? Mostly curious about the thermals of this model

Temps are terrible because Asus purposely covered the bottom intakes.

Why? Product segmentation. They want you to get the much more expensive Zephyrus M.

The intakes can be easily removed though and it'll drop the temps by 20-25°C

Hey, I literally registered just for this. I noticed this on my laptop too and posted to the Asus forum, but no reply that had a satisfactory answer. I find it hard to believe that temps are not affected with these vents blocked. The fans do intake air as I figured when the bottom was removed completely. So I would say temp reduction as a result is 100% true.

How did you remove the panels? did you remove the metal part and the paper? I tried to pry with some hard plastic but its fairly stuck to the bottom panel.

Hit submit too fast :) But it is possible to overclock this 120hz screen to 144hz using CRU and some manual tweaking. Some ghosting is removed but still noticeable (by design it could never be removed)

Alright, I removed the panel with a knife :) Metal panel and the paper is removed. Temps are about 10 degrees cooler. Those metal panels are fairly heavy.

    Unreal Asus have done this.

You should look at the bottom cover of the TUF series.

90% of the intakes are sealed

ive just removed the metal panels and the paper cover from mine, take it ive just voided the warranty? And do you think those metal panels were added to provide extra support to the back or are they just too hold the paper down?

You can easily superglue the metal panels back on when doing a warranty claim.

And no, they don't provide any structural support. It just blocks the vents and makes the laptop heavier.

Mines great so far. When i first got it I had the frame dropping issue at any settings every 10 seconds, the fix is to upgrade your BIOS to Ver 300. ( It was on Ver 208 ) and I used Winflash to do it in windows. Also I uninstalled Armour Crate and reinstalled the newest version of Armour Crate from the Asus website. Also set CPU Max performance to 98% in power management settings. No more frame dropping.

Only issue I see is the screen bleeding but most gaming laptops Ive bought have had some so its more of how much of screen bleeding are you ok with.

The updated GA502 lineup with the Ryzen 4000 series CPUs are starting to make their way onto the market. The one with the 240 Hz screen and RTX 2060 looks pretty sick for $1,400.

That being said, I picked up the 3750H/1660 Ti Max-Q version when it was $900 at Best Buy. The keyboard is one of the best I've ever used on a laptop - snappy, yet quiet, a pleasure for typing and gaming. While I do miss having a numpad, but it's not a huge deal. I'm getting 5+ hours of battery with the laptop in silent mode, with WiFi on, which is pretty great. Despite being mostly made out of plastic, it feels surprisingly premium, with pretty much zero deck flex. I replaced the garbage stock WiFi card with an Intel AX200, which has been a massive improvement. The screen isn't the best, but it is better than a Lenovo Y545 I owned before this.

It hasn't been completely smooth sailing, though. Despite having the latest BIOS, I've had a couple glitches where setting the frame buffer for the RX Vega 10 GPU would revert from my chosen 1 GB down to 128 MB. I was able to work around it by setting the desired value and using F10 to save/exit immediately. So far it has survived an additional half dozen reboots and cold starts, but that was an annoyance. More disconcerting were temperatures. When set to Performance or Turbo in Armoury Crate, the laptop would idle at 55-60 degrees with wildly fluctuating voltages. I used a razor knife to cut away the paper blocking the fans, but that only made a small difference. It turns out that the profiles in the Asus software set the CPU power state to 100% at all times. Changing that to a 5% minimum and 98% maximum (80% on battery) brought idle temps down to the upper 30s-low 40s while still maintaining around a 100 fps average in Doom 2016 at high settings while in Performance mode.

Had I paid the $1,200 MSRP, I'd be returning it in favor of the Ryzen 4000 model, but for $900 it's probably worth hanging on to especially since it's my secondary computer.

Dont own this laptop but am considering it. question for any owners...

Does "Asus Battery Health Charging" work on this laptop? are you able to limit charge to 60% or 80% to reduce battery degradation?

It's present on the older model in Armory Crate and there is at least one review that highlighted it in the newer model.

This feature is available through the MyAsus app as opposed to Armoury Crate.

If you are considering the Ryzen 3750H, don't pay more than $900 for a new one, less if you're looking at used/open box. The GA502IU models with the new 4000 series CPUs are starting to become available and are a better choice at their $1,300 or so price point than the older DU that is showing for $1,200.
