Hey guys i have been trying to get my asus a8js to project to my plasma screen (movies/anime/games) and when i hook it up through dvi it cuts off the edges of the screen, i thought originally it was a compatability issue. I tried everything i could think of settings, resolutions, i checked my plasma screen manual and set correct resolution and it still didnt fix the issue, so i gave up trying months ago. Yesterday I gave a presentation at my school and used my laptops RGB to hook up to the projector and noticed the same problem. Does anyone else have this issue with asus laptops not projecting the full desktop? I dont have it set to panning or anything i just crops off the edges and if i move my mouse to the top or left of the screen it dissapears but on the lcd screen its at the edge and stops like normal.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

What you're describing sounds like overscan, which is a known issue when a television (plasma or lcd) tries to display hi-def content from DVD and cuts off part of either the vertical or horizontal edges in the process. Different sets will do this to different degrees (%).

I'm not up on the details for how one might mange this problem since I don't own a HD set, but my impression is that it's a built-in limitation of the television or projector itself and can't necessarily be overcome. If overscan is in fact what's going on, you'd need to do further investigation with your television manufacturer support to find out whether a fix is available/possible.
