To my understanding Microsoft vista will not be released until 2006 Q4. I was wondering if the current asus notebooks will support vista? Becuase If they do I would probably buy a new one soon. If it doesn't I will probably wait till ones that do come out next year as my currently laptop is only a year old. Thanks for the help!

All laptops will, since Vista has both a 32 and 64 bit versions...

    Only the A2k, z83k, a6u are 64bit if I recall correctly....

XP is gonna be around for a while. I know many people still using 400Mhz Windows 98 machines. A laptop starts to get old the day you buy it.

Hmm.. u shud write a proposal and write down a new security policy for the company LOL :p

arghh this Network Sceurity assignment keeping my nerves on hahaha

well anyway back on topic i think we need a new lappy to be able to use vista to do what it is suppose to do or to get its full potential as what M$ advetised e.g. like how it handles the drawing of each window into a 3d spcae alike guess its a bit technical well try to see the "Alt+Tab: in action you'll know what i mean :)

Yes they did. I thought to myself after reading the 'specs' "How in the world is M$ going to market this?!"

Right now, Vista is not something I would factor into my notebook buying experience. What zazonz said is correct-a-mundo - XP will be here for quite a bit yet.

i don't know where they get the 256mb video memory requirement from in vista. at least with the current beta, an integrated solution would work fine. Infact, if you had a sonoma with integrated graphics (which is directx 9) you would experience all the visual perks without any problems. so unless they're going to be comming out with much more advanced things, they're simply trying to push the hardware further sort of how they did with windows98 (95 would run on a 386 and 98 required a pentium -- except for the sliding start menu, there was hardly any change, except a loss of reliability :p ).

I always thought 98SE was the operating system 95 should have been. Much more stable and handled PnP better (although still a long way from perfect). I still recommend it to friends with very low speced machines who are thinking of upgrading to XP.

I agree... Win98SE is my second favourite version of Windows (next to none other than WinXP Pro)
Win98SE had it all... everything was so configurable. With XP, things are so automated...but I liked being able to control everything in Win98SE :(
