Is there a chance we'll get an ASUS notebook with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 512MB VGA in the near future?

Anyone got an idea about this?

The W3J has an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, it is onyl 256mb, but can source 256mb system memory as virtual RAM to give you a total of 512mb. thats not too shabby at all.

    Only 256meg /chuckle

People who are demanding 512meg top of the line video cards in laptops should be buying 15 pound lug around desktop replacements.

    ATI Mobility Radeon x1600 PCI-E Graphics w/ 256MB VRAM (512MB Hyper Memory) [proportable.com]

HyperMemory™ is ATI’s innovative technology that enables a reduction in the amount of on-board memory on a graphics card without compromising its overall performance.

Its advanced memory management technology makes more efficient use of all the available memory in computers with PCI Express® technology. Graphics applications can share system memory and use fast on-board memory for real-time processing between the graphics card and the computer’s memory. This ultimately increases the affordability of ATI’s RADEON® graphics technology. [ati.com]

    unless im mistaken?

Yeah thats exactly what I was on about, mind you this is a much better explanation, don't know performance wise how it actually rates against a real 512mb card? but I am sure it would work better with the more RAM you have installed i.e. at least over 1gb.

But at the end of the day I have never seen a 512mb card in anything resembling portable, which makes the 14' W3J at 2.3 kg simply remarkable, even most 15' mainstream laptops dont even have 128mb cards.

has anybody seen even a gaming laptop with a 512mb card, (although i think it is Rock, here in the UK do a dual card running in SLI mode!)

check it out, awesome, its runing Two NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800GTX 256Mb cards!

However at 6.5kg you wouldnt want to carry it to far. :D

It would be hard to find anything that would use all 256 then go into hypermemory.
