Are we looking at March sometime for the ASUS Duo Core product line to start appearing? What model will it be? The Z series?

Doesn't seem like there is a lot of hype in this subforum for the new duo core models coming out....

Well thats just a general idea from proportable.com. other places may have it sooner, but I highly doubt it because justin allows preorders :D

I think the hype of lack of is due to the fact that the duo's arent for everyone. That is only those who will be doing heavy multi tasking will really see the benifit. On top of that, many users here are well informed, I personally feal like the current release is a bit like a band-aid solution, that is the real dual-cores of interest are the next batch which will be 64bit...these will come out with vista, and personally that is what Im waiting for. My old M2n with its PM1.6 is still plenty fast for what I need right now....I personally feel like there isnt any laptops that are far enough above this one to justify the upgrade. Thus my personal lack of hype for the current line of duo's.. from any manfacture.

If I had a reasonable notebook I would also wait, but with a Celeron 600 mhz I couldnt wait any longer, so a Core Duo it is, it does have significant advantage, perfornance wise, comparing with the previous generation...

I am sure it will run Vista too...

Quick question: Is there actually a posibility that a new laptop purchased today with a Core Duo processor will be so outdated in, say, 2 years that it will be useless and unable to perform basic tasks because of the transition to 64 bit?

    No, not in two years.
Windows Vista will support 32 and 64bit CPU's.
64bit software itself will not become the common thing until two years.

If we look at the past, nothing is outdated in two years, usually the problem is that you need more memory and more disk, otherwise it works, look at my 6 years old 600mhz Celeron, slow but sure... ;)

What applications will benefit from Core Duo? I know that Photoshop CS2 is designed to utilize the new chip, but will all apps benefit?

I wish there were benchmarks available for these new dual core chips versus the Pentium M Sonoma chips.

www.anandtech.com had a few good ones...
One showed off the W5Ae and W5F for comparison.
    Does someone remember the link?
You can also search the forums, it's been posted a few times.

They are somewhat, there was an article with the ASUS W5a and W5f, which are of 915 and 945 chipsets respectively, as the comparison unit.

I don't recall who wrote it though, Toms Hardware perhaps? I don't remember.

edit: Ugh, my slow typing, got beat by Justin and Sasha :(
