    It's a nice machine...reminds me of a less flashy W3v/Z63a

What's that under the screen? Speakers? That's brilliant! Now nobody can complain that their hands are muffling the sound. I hope........ :D

I'm still not sure what the point of this model is, though -- it seems to be just about the same size/weight as the W3, just with a smaller screen. Or am I missing something?

no one said their hands were muffling the sound on the w3 anyway... but yeah... they used speakers up there on the W5... it's ok.. i mean you can't expect wonders from any laptop, especially one that small.

I don't understand the point to this model and I'm supposed to....... it's too much like a W3a (z63a) that it doesn't make sense for this country..... yet anyway.

Maybe ASUS wanted to release a notebook that would compete with the Fujitsu 13.3" line... or against Sony's S series.
For all of the users out there who don't need the W3v's dedicated graphics, and want something a little more portable...? (with ASUS's ensemble reliability?)

Seems like they are making it more difficult for the consumer to choose a laptop - Asus already has a bunch of laptops similar to them.

Looks like they are competing with themselves lol :p

They need a laptop for every category. They recently got a 17", the W2v, the z81sp the desktop replacement, and now the w6a, a 13.3".

Now all they need is a 10" to complete the set!

And maybe a 19" while we're at it!

As one who moved from Sony S series to the W3 because I found the pixel size on the S to be too small, I consider that the small size increments are significant. The area is a function of the square of the diagonal and the pixels on the 14" screen are 14% bigger than the pixels on the 13.3" screen.

However, the problem is for the users to work out what is the ideal size for their own needs without having to buy and use each computer for a month.

Maybe the W6 was planned when Asus realised that the W3 is not the 2kg machine that they claim it be.

The W3 didn't magically come out heavier..... I don't think they ever said it was 2kg flat, but with the smaller battery and travelers drawer, it could get down to 4.8 pounds.. which is more like 2.17 or more kg....... That a correct way to weight the units..... The US oppted for the 8 cell battery instead of the 4 in order to have twice the battery life, so with the travelers drawer in that unit, we're looking at more like 5 pounds..... and more like 5.5 w/ the optical drive. It doesn't matter how you slice, it's not heavier than they wanted, the US went heavier for more battery.... that's their own fault, but could you imagine the riots over battery life if they went with the 4 cell and only save a few ounces?

Well, I can see the point. It is 15 to 20 percent lighter than the W3V. It might not make a difference everyone but when you travel a lot, you will be happy to leave these 300 or 400 gramms at home. (instead there is an ipod nano, a mobile phone, a (paper-)notebook and three pens in different colours in my bag)... By the way it is competing very well with the so-loved Sony S-Series, which is even heavier. Hope the screen is as good and the fan is not that noisy. (though s5 should be less noisy anyway)

I'm certainly not going to say it's not something people would buy.... or even I would like... I'm just saying as a business.... which I run and Asus USA has to run..... some things are too much a like to make worth the time....... the reason the new W1 isn't going to come to the US is becasue it would be the same spec as the W2, would be the same price, would only be about 1/4-1/2 pound lighter........ Mang people have already said they'd buy it..... but overall more people would buy the W2 and if not given the choice those people who would like the W1 because it's smaller would get the W2 because they realize it's not much bigger or heavier.....

Well, I got your point - I still think they are going the right way. Size does matter. By the way I wanna have a notebook with integrated graphics since I dont need these dedicated heat producer and energy-sucker in my lappy...

true..... so that's why this would be better to have then the Z63a.... if we got rid of that, then it would make for a more diverse grouping.... but for now it's too close to that.
