Hey there, I've been reading your reviews on the c90s for a while now, and come to the conclusion that I'm going to get an c90s.

However, I looked at your upcoming Asus release pages and I saw the C91L, curious as to what it was I saw on some Spanish/Portuguese website that it is a new barebones PC.

Does anyone know where I can get any information on it? According to your forum and the Spanish website it should be being released very soon, but I can't find anything regarding its specs and differences to the c90s.

    Thanks for your time,
    Ben.

Anyone got any specs pn the C91L and the C91S? These seem to be the 2 new desktop replacement notebooks I find reference to.

Edit: Found some info on the C91L, Santa Rosa platform (mobile CPU).

Basically just pictures without the Turbo Engine on the back and a short description in Spanish that I translated to "akin to the C90S, but Santa Rosa based".

C91S seems to be desktop CPU based, but besides mentions in articles with the C90S nothing else is mentioned about it.

    Hmmm, Santa Rosa hey?
Thats the new centrino processor? Isn't that a laptop processor, so they're taking a step backwards not forwards?

I reckon I'll go for the c90s then. I'm looking to take it with me to Britannia royal navy college next year, and then throughout the Navy which Is why I'm looking for a desktop replacement.

I have one concern, the noise, just on standard, not overclocked is it distracting? Would I be able to sleep if I left it on?

And how big a problem is the 7200rpm hdd? Would you say its a better idea to get a big huge 5200rpm one and keep it pretty empty?

    Thanks for the help guys,
    Ben.

My opinion on the HD is in my sig :D. The noise is more of a turbine like hum, and that is only when it's under load. Right now for instance, it's silent. Not a problem IMO.

C91L and C91S both use Conroe processors, Santa Rosa will no supported.

both models are similar to C90S except:

    C91L:
    Non upgradable video card.
Does not support overclock and X6800.

    C91S:
more like C90S, it has upgradable GPU but does not support X6800 and overclocking.

Both models does not have turbo engine in the back and no ETA.

Ken, is the C91S supposed to replace the C90S? Do you have any other specs on it? Curious as to their marketing logic, i.e. selling an upgradeable unit then replacing the whole unit in fairly short order :D

No it's not going to replace C90S, it's actually just a C90S without turbo engine.
the information for both C91L and C91S is 6 months old and they never mention it ever since, so I am not sure if Asus still going to release it.

yes there will be drivers update for gddr3.
no ETA for ATI card but they already upload the drivers for it on C90S' download page and it's been there for a while.

YES! on the driver update! :D The thing I liked about ATI is they publish their mobility drivers themselves readily and don't rely on 3rd parties to take care of their own.

I found one score but I thought that was just standard, not overclocked. I'll look again maybe I was wrong.
