    Hi everyone,

I recently took ownership of a c90s. Straight away I started having the problems with the wireless dropping out on battery, it only seemed to happen on the turbo gear power save mode though.

Anyway I got onto the service guys here in Australia, they told me that the wireless cards on these machines had been put in the wrong slot, and it had.

So I shifted it into right correct slot, everything seemed to be ok, vista detected it, reinstalled drivers no problems....until tonight when I wasn't doing a whole lot so changed to the turbo gear power save mode while I was on mains power, pretty much straight away I lost my wireless.

So did the normal stuff, uninstalled the card, opened the laptop back up and checked to make sure card was seated ok, but everything is fine. This problem bothers me, I can't seem to find anyone else having wireless problems while the computer is on mains power.

I have also unchecked allow vistas to turn this device off to save power, and in my advanced power options I have changed the power settings so all the wireless settings are set to maximum performance

My drivers are the 1.1.1v (I think) they are from the intel site.

Router is a Billion 7402VG0 running 5.52d firmware, it looks like there is new firmware out for it so I may give that a shot tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance

    Sam

    Sam,

I experience the same exact problems. I had previously uninstalled TurboGear to find that it did not fix the problem. I received an email from GenTech with a link to an updated version of TurboGear, but that still did not fix me problem.

Again, I am experiencing the EXACT same problems as you. Would love some help on this.

    hey,

good to hear I'm not the only one with is problem, (but sorry to hear your going though the same crap as me!!)

I'm hoping to be intouch with the tech guy today, so ill speak with him about it and let you know what he says.

I read somewhere about some of these cards being faulty, so maybe thats all it is, however twice now my machine has failed to go into hibernate properly, which makes me wonder about the memory??

One a side note, I'm not sure if this is related, but if your running vista, does the power mode that displays when you hover over the battery icon in the task bar change when you change your turbo gear power mode.

    All the best

    Sam

Heh, I tested the Turbo Gear question. I switched from Standard ---> Battery Saver in the Turbo Gear console. After the switch, my wireless net stopped working. To answer your question, no, battery icon did not switch whenever I changed the mode in Turbo Gear.

I can switch to other Turbo Gear modes w/o any problems w/ connectivity. It seems that anything that has do to w/ saving power tends to stop the wireless card from working correctly.

It's a bad intel card....there are some out there. I had the same problem. My vendor sent me a new wireless card, and the problem disappeared. He told me Asus duplicated the battery/wireless problem and it was simply a bad card.

Alright i just fixed my wireless problem.

My wireless has never worked on battery power at all. So finally i decided to mess with it to try and fix it. I never really use my computer unplugged so it hasnt been a problem but it just bugged me that something on my new computer didnt work.
Anyways, all i did to fix this was uninstall drivers, then restart the computer. Let windows find the new hardware and when it did I let windows install the drivers. There Done!!
My wireless now works on battery.
Before i had used the intell tool to install them and i guess it must of installed wrong. Although my wifi did work on power this way.
And just so everyone knows, i did have the "allow windows to turn this device off to save power" feature unchecked and on power saving i had it set to maximum performance on battery, it still never worked so it was not those things that kept it from working.
Something to do with the intell setup didnt communicate with windows the right way or something because when i let windows set things up i no longer had the issue.

Hopefully this helps and im not too confusing haha.
Just wanted everyone to know it was not the wifi card it was the way the drivers were installed, at least in my case.

Which Windows? I think for Vista, certain things like Bluetooth drivers are better left to Vista also....For wireless, I'm using Intel Drivers but I've had my card replaced...works on battery fine now.

    Hey guys,

I'm also experiencing wireless drops. But I'm getting them both on battery, and on AC power.

I bought my computer from GenTech and ken put in the B/G/N card, I also installed the Intel drivers for this card.

I set the wireless setting so it would NOT shut off on battery save mode, it is also set on maximum performance... But again, I'm getting drops on AC power also- I've tried multiple networks and routers with the same problem.

Sometimes it will drop, and then refuse to connect again also- I have to restart the computer to get it to work.

    Any suggestions?

I bet the people with drops have the 4965AGN as this card has been having a lot of problems with the c90s. Only some in a "good" batch work with this laptop on battery. I downgraded to the 3945ABG card which has worked perfectly since I don't use my lappy in an "n" environment. I'd speak with Ken for he's helped with many people experiencing this same problem.

If you also getting drop on AC power then it's not the same problem people having with wireless N, you might want to check the signal strength of the router or could be the interference from the 2.4Ghz cordless phone.

Well, we don't have any phones in the apartment, and I'm very close to the router. Signal strength is consistently excellent. No one else in the apartment experiences the same problem, with older computers no less.

Also, it happens at school in class... so no phones there either.

I did try uninstalling the driver, then restarting windows and letting it take care of it. No drops yet, but I haven't had ample time to test it.

    I'll update when I can.

EDIT: Wireless just cut out. =(...

Not sure if it's the drivers but you can test it longer to see it'll happen again.
Your card was hand picked just like the one I sent to theZoid and some other customers, if it happen again you can send it back to us and we will test the card for you.

Also you might want to check if there are loose wires for the card, make sure all 3 wire are connected properly, the reason I ask is it did happen to 2 of my customers.

Is it only on the powersave mode? Mine drops out on powersave whether is on battery or mains, The problem seems to be a faulty wireless card, although I cant confirm this 100% as my supplier has never bothered to replace the card for me even though they said they would. However, the second poster in the forum (Troy83) was having the same problem and I reckon he fixed his with a replacement card.

Unfortunately, it dropped just a few minutes ago on on AC mode. I'll check out the wire situation tomorrow and report back. Otherwise, I may consider sending it out to be tested. Thanks for the offer Ken.

You've offered THE BEST customer service I've ever seen, thank you.

Well I haven't checked the wires as promised, but it's been online for a solid 4 hours on both AC and then unplugged with Power save mode, no drops yet.

    I'll keep testing.

It was connected fine yesterday for 14 hours, on battery and on AC. Power save and gaming modes.

However today, I boot her up and I'm playing a game online for two minutes and it kicks me off.

When I do lose wireless, network connections still claims I'm "connected".

    I can't ping, I have no internet what-so-ever.

If I try and repair the connection, view status, or properties the computer starts lagging so bad it takes a good solid 2 minutes to open the status window.

The only time I experience ANY lag what so ever on this computer is when I lose wireless. When I have wireless everything runs like a dream, I get 2.5Mbps on cnet.com

So, Ken, or anyone, (after I check the wires) should I send the unit in for replacement? If so, would it be possible to put a hold on my CC and have you send me one, when I receive it, I'll send you back the one I have- I use the laptop for school work and play so I'd like not to have it down for a week via shipment and testing.

    Let me know.

connected for 14 hours? hmm...this is more complicated and there are many factors that cause the wireless to drop.

you might want to try connect to your LAN jack for test to see if it will also drop connection.

Also when you lost wireless connection try this:

1: click start and type in CMD on the search box and press enter, it'll bring up the command prompt
2: Type IPCONFIG/release and press enter
3: type IPCONFIG/renew and press enter

    see if that works.

if you want to setup RMA you can send me email and I'll take care of it for you.

I think there is a GUI alternative to this, it's called Repair network connection and it is accessible by a Repair button under the connection properties, Support tab. This is in XP though, not sure about Vista.

^That's correct, that's the method I was using and it freezes.

I'll try IPCONFIG /release, /renew, ect. Next time it happens and report back.

I had been having problems with my wireless dying going off and on AC power sporadically after getting my wireless card replaced. I just uninstalled my wireless driver and let windows reinstalled it and it appears to be working now as well. Hopefully this continues...

I have been having problems with wireless drops as well (intel 4965AGN). My problem is straight forward. AC power it works, battery or low power mode, no wireless. When I plug back into AC, the wireless doesn't come back.

I uninstalled the driver, then let vista32 reinstall the drivers. Nope.

I moved the card to the other slot. No fix.

Instead of fighting with this, I was thinking of just buying the 3945ABG. Will I just have the same problems?

Did you try updating the ACPI drivers? And tinkering with the power saving settings of the card (disable power saving modes on battery).
