Hi all! (again, wrote this damn thing a few minutes ago but i froze and now i have to do it again!)

I've got a problem with my Asus c90s. I've read through the forum and used google and yahoo to try and get the answer i need, i might have it allready but as stubborn as i am i need to know WHY!

    My laptop is a 2008 Asus c90s 2,40 Intel Dual Core 8600GT 512MB 4G-RAM

It's the famous black screen. I've read that it most likley is the GPU that's gone -up. I've tried to unplugg/plugg the GPU,CPU,RAM and HDD. I've disconnected the motherboards batteri and connected it again. On "Power On" it boots and powers up the CD/DVD-ROM but when i hit the button again it instantly shuts down, doesnt mather if it's been on 10sec or 30min. I've tried the trick where you disconnect the cooling for the GPU and tucked it in bed to get the temp up. I'm not going to cook it, that's where i draw the line. The batterie is dead, needs to stay connected to the AC at all time.

Nice to know: Before this happend i was deleting some files in the regedit to get my DVD/CD-ROM to work again (No, this is not my primary laptop). The "Black Screen" occured on the restart after this event.

Now, my question is. IF it's the GPU (As far as my super hardware knowledge that's the laptops GFX-Card) Why wont it go through the usual boot sequence and proceed to the log in screen? As stated it turns as quickly on as it turns off, that tells me it hasent gone as far as the login screen cause then i would need to hold the power button for atleast 3sec to turn it of.

Could i have overlooked something or is it the GPU? I've read through the forums and i am deeply sorry if i've overlooked the thread where the answer to my question is.

    Cheers!

Since you disconnected the CMOS battery so when you it turn on it might stop at "Press F1 to continue", you can try press F1 see if it will start the normal boot sequence.

Hello Brego and welcome to NBR. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Do you have a external monitor lying about handy? If you do plug it in via your vga port and try booting once more. If you GPU has even gone up in a puff of smoke it will also display black. If it works then your screen is the culprit.
