I was just wondering if anyone knew why asus is taking longer than alot of other manufacturers to start shipping dual core notebooks. Hp, sony, and acer have already introduced their notebooks and you can start configuring/buying them. IBM says that their dual core notebooks will be delievered in late feburary, a few weeks before the asus notebooks are starting to ship.

To me, I would want to get the notebooks out as fast as possible. Because if your brand is one of few manufacturers with dual core, people will buy them due to lack of competitors.

Dont get me wrong, I love asus, more than any other manufacturer. However, I have to get a notebook by a certain date and if asus doesnt have their dual core notebooks out by then, then I will be forced to choose another manufacturer.

    Bugs.

I rather have something that works and be delayed then something that keeps screwing up and needs to be fixed.

Ditto! Besides... the people who buy Asus in the first place are usually informed buyers who are aware of their quality products; if Asus waits an extra couple of weeks to ship their notebooks... the prospective buyers will wait for it.

Asus doesn't put anything out that they aren't satisfied with..... and the US office refuses to order anything till THEY are happy with the product.....

.... I think I have to make a comment that goes for anyone who comes out and says they'll have to go with a different manufacturer........... no one cares. If you honestly can't wait for the best product, get something else. Comments like that aren't going to make it appear any faster and if you are that arbitrary..... it's just a notebook and I guess it really don't matter what you get.

Like I said - this doesn't just go for you, but everyone who makes this same comment.... which would be dozens of people on the forum...... it doesn't help get the product here sooner. If you can't wait - don't.

Im sorry if I came off that way but I was just basically wondering if there had been any setbacks. I just am frustrated because if I wait for asus and go over a certain date I will not be able to get a notebook at all. So I think even you would say to go to a different manufacturer if not getting one by a certain date would mean never getting one.

I hear you..... it's a common complaint by many people.. they don't want what's out now and they can't wait for the next thing...... most have only heard of Asus within a few months if that and they want more than they can get, is basically what it comes down to.

If you wait, you can't get anything at all.... ok.. i don't need to know your situation, but I guess I can understand. For us, till they show up at our door, we could really care less about them..... and no one else is going to be able to tell you differently. All I can say is, Asus is certainly going to have the best product out there and they're never in a rush to make it to market... they'd rather put out the best product they can and that means fixing bugs......

Things could come in a bit earlier, but I've learned a way to estimate ETA's based on Asus' ETA's as well as shipping times.... so you're looking at a month for the W5f and V6j and almost two months for the W1j, W2j and W3j.

I was unaware that the W1 was coming here. I thought the W1 was so close to the W2 that they decided not to release it. Im curious as to why the W3J would take longer than the V6J.

Also, do you know when Asus will release the specs for the new dual core notebooks?

I have to agree with Justin above.

Im planning on the W2v when it comes out in around 2 months. I'l l have the money in a month (well i hope), but anyways if i do, i still would wait for it since it is an ASUS. I have been wanting the W2v forever now, and now that it is in Duo core, and has a better GPU, im of course going to wait for it, even if it takes till summer.

Now im concerned weither i should wait until a Merom in the W2 series. I have no clue if they will even do that, but Merom wont be out for another 8 months or so, and won't be in certian notebooks for 9-10 or so months. That is a long time, but as long as i have the W2j open to me, i might as well get that. But im not 100%sure yet if i should just wait for Merom

Nick you will love the W2J it will be worth the wait. You also have to remember Asus has a small US markey compared to other countrys. The Dual core asus are already available in some countrys.

    Thanks SRD,

Yeah i know i can wait for the Core Duos. But i mean, with Merom coming out in a little while, i don't know if i should wait for that. Im hoping i can swap out the Core Duo in the W2j, and then put Merom in it. But then i need to wait to Flash the BIOS, so that wont be for a while. And thats of course if Intel allows the Merom to be swapped with the Core Duo. As of now it looks like its going to be that way, but it could change.

And yeah, i know im going to love the W2j :)

Personaly if you can wait for the 64bit just wait. its really not that far off. I mean there isnt that big of a difference of the two but if you can wait whynot because after that no new chips will be out for at least one more year you know you have something that is the best for a while. but then again the W2j is overkill for most so im sure it will serve your needs fine.

Yeah your right. Will just have to see how things play out.

But i doubt anyone will talk me out of the W2j. It be pretty hard, but i have had my mind set for a while now. A week ago i totally forgot about the W2j, so i was bummed that i would get the W2v with the x700 card and just the regular proccesor.

What i have now, and going to have the W2j, its going to amazing. I mean i jsut did a test with my GPU card and i got 363 on 3DMark03.

I play every game well with my W2V X700 high rez. even quake 4. And honestly besides benchmarks most people arent gonna see a difference with the dual core. but since its so close of course wait for the dual core.

Yeah i was making it more towards the x1600 card.

I can't figure out if there is going to be a 1.3MP camera built into it too. I mean, it would have to go on the botoom of the display since there is no room on the top part of the trim.

..... this is a business unlike any other, really..... wait if you want, but you don't have to take everyone with you. This is the time of year where everything 3rd or 4th post is about waiting or not waiting or should I take this deal now or will I need what's coming? .........

.... I remember teachers telling us this in school.......... wait silently. No one is going to talk you out of it and no one really cares that much or has any reason to try to.

...wait for what you want and when you need it. I doubt you or anyone else in this forum can foresee what the real world differences between the x700 and x1600 are --- and what a price premium and two months is really worth. Yes the new model is going to be more awesome, without a doubt.... obviously you want it Nick and obviously you can wait...... I think I found an answer for you. :)

Well you got to take into account that it is the Chinese New Year period. So probably all the Asus staff members are on holiday celebrating. So you'll have to give them about 2 weeks to get the momentum going again. Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
