Hi everyone,
I am planning on buying the new 2.5" HDD (500g Seagate Momentus XT), but im not sure on the compatibility it would have with my f3sg laptop. I am running Linux Mint 10.
Are all 2.5" HDD's just plug an play, or do i have to consider how much power my motherboard supplies to the HDD? This is a 7200rpm hdd so thats why i am not sure.
Thanks

These are the best specs I could find for your system:
ASUS F3Sg - Specifications
It has an ICH8 family I/O controller so it should support sata II.
The only consideration for a drive would be its height, and the XT is 9.5mm:
Momentus XT | 7200 RPM | Seagate
A 7200RPM drive will eat more power and give you a shorter battery life than a slower drive, but it may or may not be a big deal depending on the battery capacity.
One thing to be aware of is that some users have reported 1-2 second hiccups or freezes with this drive, and there have been some reports of suspend/resume problems with it, independent of OS (probably BIOS implementation dependent). There is updated firmware, but I don't own one to tell you if it's solved for a particular setup. -
Great, Thanks!
I'll do some more research and then i will see. I will probably wait for the new series to come out and then we'll see what people say. Thanks again.
