    Windows XP:
I am looking to buy a new laptop. The asus F6V-V1 looks nice, but I have a problem with using Vista. It is spec'd without drivers for XP. I really need XP though. Has anyone actually got the F6V working with XP?

    T9600:
The T9400 is an alright processor, but I wouldn't mind going for gold and buying the T9600 and throwing it in it. Has anyone tried this. It is spec'd only to the T9400.

    7200rpm:
The F6V is spec'd with only using 5400rpm drives. Again I wouldn't mind trying to put in a 7200rpm drive. Has anyone got this working?

    Thanks,
    Brian

If ASUS or your reseller doesn't offer XP-compatible drivers, you can download most of them from the device manufacturer's site. Proprietary stuff, such as custom TV-Tuners, Remote controls, etc may not work if they don't have drivers for XP.

But if the OS BIT is same, then most Vista drivers work in XP, and can be installed using the Have-Disk Method in Device Manager.

T9600 and 7200RPM drives will work. The T9600 won't provide much of an improvement over the T9400.

I think they are discontinuing XP on a lot of laptops that arent EEE at asus.
    Catalog says this:
    OS Compatibility

Windows Vista * Windows XP driver is not available

    EDIT:
I damaged my driver disk for an F3Sa recently, I sent an email to the support team at asus, they told me to look at a german asus website where they had all the driver disk ISOs. I checked the website and nothing for F6 mate, sorry.

Hi, with a bit of work you can almost always get a fully-working XP installation on an ASUS laptop. Here is my generic brief guide on doing this:

I strongly suggest against upgrading the CPU. You would be throwing away the warranty for a marginal improvement.
