OK, I can get the g1 for under $2k. The Lambo vx2 is $1k MORE. Why? The specs are the same except for the name and paintjob? What else am I missing?
This is what I see different:
    1) Lambo is yellow
    2) Lambo has a 2.16 processor vs a 2.0Ghz
    3) Leather palmrest(I think)
    4) Lambo has Vista Ultimate
    5) Lambo has 802.11N vs G
I think thats it. All that for $1k more?

The VX2 is only worth $300-$500 more. Some people are willing to fork over another $500 for the cosmetics

One more thing, why is it they quote 4hrs for the 8cell on the lambo and only 2 hours for the 8cell on the G1. That COULD make a difference. Does anybody know if that is a typo?

I could see MAYBE $600 upgrade if the battery really did last 100% longer.

The VX2 is better built than the G1. The number of cells in the battery is not an exact indicator for battery time. It's better to check either Whr or mAh. For instance: my 6 cell battery has 4800mAh. There are 6 cells with less mAh and there might be with more. That being said, i find 4h a stretch, 3 is more likely.

The VX2 is not marketed for those who want to pay for the best bang for their buck laptop, it is quite an extravagent notebook.

The quality of materials used, leather, magnesium alloy, carbon fiber alloy, the features it offers, multi-bay, docking station and more.

Then there are slightly higher specs over the G1, also it comes with a lot of extras like a bag, sleeve, mouse pad, mouse, and etc. Of course the design itself is very intriguing. It does come in a yellow colour but also a black carbon look.

There is a VX2 owner here, his thread is Click Here

As for battery life, look to real life examples of battery life than what companies state. It is a matter of WHR on the battery and the lowest discharge rate one can achieve, which yeilds the greatest amount of battery life. Battery life is not dependent on the numbers of cells, however more cells usually mean more WHR.

I have a V6j, which is no Lambo, but is definitely an expensive laptop compared to other similarly spec'ed computers. I can tell you that the materials, build quality, and aesthetics of a computer do matter (unless you want the cheapest computer out there). I don't necessarily like the look of the Lambo, but I would definitely pay for a Lambo over G1 any day, with better materials and build, and I do prefer the look of the Lambo.

If you think about it, the better materials and build are worth a lot. Say they add 2 years to the life of your computer (in my experience, this is incredibly feasible), they end up costing you less. You spend $1900 every 2 years, instead of $3000 every 4 years. You save $800 if you look at it that way.

The G1 gets about 3 1/2 hours, i cant say for the lambo but i bet its around the same if not less (because the c2d is clocked higher). As for the design being "better", i must admit it looks nicer but reivews say they dont like the fact that the exhast blows on the mouse.

Many Asus laptops have that exhaust issue. I don't find it to be a problem, but many do. Some people have solved it with a business card.

caleschmerge- I see youre thoughts. VX2 does have alot going for it if I keep it for years. Just figuring out if I will keep it for that long.

I know for me the question would be if I wanted newer technology, I am confident that the notebook is built well enough that it would last that long.

This is like the Alienware/Sager issue. Alienware rebrands Sager units, and makes it pretty. For that you pay $1k+ more. In the end, its the same, but people still buy Alienware, yet its not any better then the Sager, as its the same.

In this case, its similar, very similar specs, yet the VX2 has much much more going for it.

I had a similar although different decision to make when I chose the W3J over the G1. My reasoning is similar to the sentiments shared in this post:

    Better build quality.

Although the G1 might be as powerful or slightly less powerful than the VX2, the VX2 has a lot more going for it. The build quality alone would sway me enough to purchase the VX2 over the G1. Then throw in all the accessories Asus includes, and I think the difference is quite clear. Now, I didn't have 3 grand to drop on a laptop, but if I did, the VX2 would be at the top of my short list. Not saying the G1 isn't awesome, but I would rather have superior build quality any day.
