    Hey,

As the title says, my Asus G1S died. I´ve read a few threads about the machine, and the most common problem is that the screen goes black, altough you can hear windows is still running in the background.

With me the screen is black and I hear no sound at all when I press the power button. not even the famous startup sound from asus..

So basicly my question is: Is this a GPU problem? or something else? and what can I expect from Asus? do you recon it will get repaired, or reimbursed with a new laptop? if a new laptop, what kind of laptop would I be looking at?

    Regards
    Disapointed Asus customer :(

No sound or anything at startup could be something like motherboard failure, rather than just the GPU (where I believe you'd still get the BIOS startup sound).

Best to at least call Asus tech support and discuss what your RMA options are. Your G1 is probably out of warranty, but Asus is being flexible on occasion for failures in this model.

well, as I live in norway.. and laptops are products that are ment to last long. It goes under norwegian consumer law that laptops have a 5 year warranty. So even if Asus says their 2 year warranty is out, It dosent matter in my case.

Anyway, I turned the computer into their service senter today. They couldent really tell me anything before looking at it..

When its the motherboard.. do you know in most cases if the computer gets repaired? or do I get a new one?.. perhaps even better the money back?

    Hello all,
how did you get on with your unit? ive seen many g series have succumb to this fault. What have Asus said regarding component defects and your warranty?
were there many recalls on thease units?

If covered by warranty your G1S is likely to be replaced with a G50/51 now. Whether it is the GPU or motherboard makes no difference as a new GPU would necessitate a new motherboard anyway as it is soldered into it.
