Well i am trying to figure out which laptop to purchase. The choices are between asus g1s and thinkpad t61p.
I have worked with thinkpads before but only seen asus laptops in the stores. What i would like to know is how build quality of g1s compares to lenovos. Does the screen wobble at all? Does plastic used by Asus feel solid or is it same crappy stuff used by dells on inspirons? Also is the keyboard and buttons on touchpad noisy or relatively silent? What about general noise? Would i be able to use it in a classroom without drawing a ton of attention to myself?

My biggest concern about asus is durability. My current laptop, inspiron 6000 literaly fell appart on me from constantly being carried around, tossed around and used in a year and half. The screen on that thing was extremely wobbly and the whole thing jsut felt cheap. Some comments about durabilty of G1s would be extremely helpful to me.

I have hands on experience with both laptops and I cannot lie that the build on the T61p is superior. The screen doesn't shake much on the G1s, but the steel hinges on the T61p are better. Also if you plan on using the laptop roughly the build on the T61p is better and it will look better than if you you rough use the G1s. I use the G1s in class, and the only thing people say is that I have a cool looking laptop :D

My company provides me with thinkpads for work and I own a G1S for play. The thinkpad build is indeed superior. I've lugged thinkpads around and they can take a lot of beating (and they do since they get replaced if they break). I'm not sure that the G1S can take nearly as much abuse and I have no occasion to put it to the test - it stays on my desk at home. That said, I'm very happy with the G1S - it is a sweet gaming laptop.

In a sentence, ASUS build is better than Dell, but worse than Lenovo Thinkpad. :)

well after reading the problems people are having running 3d applications (crashing) and less than stellar display panels on thinkpads, i ended up ordering myself the g1s. Maybe in a bit i'll grab myself an X series thinkpad or an 13 inch dell xps for mobility later.

Excellent choice, and if you can afford the extra, portable laptop, it works out perfectly, especially since the battery life on that will probably be better too.
