Hey sometimes when i shut down my asus g50v a1 it doesn;t shut down, for example it is just stuck at the shutdown screen, i left it on for 15 min once and it still didn;t shut down, is there any solution to this?

Check your processes and see if any are not ending when they should. I have this problem when I run a certain program on my desktop with XP - the process doesn't terminate when I exit the program.

Are you perchance running Avast? I had the same problem and switching from Avast to Avira fixed it. Apparently Avast doesn't get along well with Vista 64.

Keep an eye on this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=347915
Inability to shutdown or log off or restart was one of the initial symptoms I noticed before my notebook would not display the Windows Vista desktop and began to hang. I worked out my own solution but am still wondering about the cause.

Yes check what Delta said, one of your programs is still running and preventing a shut down.

It could be clearing your paging file. This applies to XP and Vista both. Set this value to 0 instead of 1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314834

what does the paging files do?
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Essentially holds data that doesn't fit into available RAM for quicker call-up when the OS needs it, rather than searching around the HDD for it.

Try turning off the shutdown sound, I think it's called exit windows in control panel-sounds
-
if i disable it will it affect anything ?

oh i meant for the paging file thing.

I've had this problem with my G50v the entire time I've owned it. It's by FAR the #1 problem I have with this laptop. It fails to shut down in the same way you described 25% of the time, and fails to goto sleep in the same fashion 25% of the time. It's driving me insane.
I have no fixes. -
These problems continue to persist after a clean install?
-
i did a reformat and the problems still occur
-
Hmmmm. I'd suspect a hardware problem then. Better talk to Asus support.
-
i believe it started happening when i updates the bios to 1.09 is there anyways to roll back the bios to a lower version?

You can download the previous BIOS versions from Asus's website directly. Just type in your notebook model number

I updated it to bios 1.10 and everything works perfectly!

its weird because back in 1.09 when i ran a virus scan it would always freeze on scanning asus proc server or something now with 1.10 i can do full scans and shutdown and restart
