    Before you go crazy, try running it from the command line, it's chkdsk /f c: and then type Y and hit enter. Reboot and it should chkdsk automatically. Sometimes it will skip a chkdsk if there are updates to be applied, so two reboots may be necessary in that case.

    Hi. I'm not that good in laptop troubleshooting. How do I do this?

    I've got some corrupt files balloon running on my n80. When I tried the reboot on restart, it doesn't run the repair. Help!

    Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt

    Type chkdsk /f c: and hit enter. Type Y and hit Enter. Reboot.

    Did that awhile ago (run as administrator). It read:

    Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is blah blah. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N).

    I will type Y now and restart the laptop. (I remember doing this yesterday, nothing happened). I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks.

    Try my suggestion further up the page. I had exactly the same problem...I can schedule chkdsk at the next restart, but it never does it. Using the recovery console was the way to go.

    Will this remove all my existing files?

    No, it shouldn't do anything. The boot disk is just a modified version of the regular Vista CD, except that it has the install files stripped out of it. So I think about the only thing you can do is to use the recovery console or command prompt. Booting into safe mode with command prompt didn't work for me, there were still Windows files in use.
