I just ordered the g50vt-a1 from btotech and was wondering what the best things to do to clean/optimize it.

    My plan so far:

    1. Remove all the bloat/crap-ware (like MS Office trials and such)
    2. Using Acronis to make a "OS Only" image.
    3. Upgrade all possible drivers, Tweak Vista, and Install apps I use (Office, Flash, etc.)
    4. Using Acronis to make a "Loaded Application" Image.
    5. Install games, music and other temporary apps.

Do you think this is a solid plan? I am very nervous about jumping to Vista (64-bit).

I would love any suggestions or links for tweaking/cleaning/optimizing Asus and/or Vista 64-bit

    Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm very excited about my A2 arriving, but am a little nervous about 64bit Vista. I hope I can learn the ins and outs of Vista quickly.

So for everyone that has a G50 or g50vt is it better to leave your hard drive setting in enabled or in compatible mode?

Does anyone know if I can put XP Pro on the Asus g50vt-a1?

Yes, it's definitely possible. Most of the drivers on the drivers disk should work on XP as well.

    Thanks for the info +Rep,

This is a big relief. I was afraid that there might be some kind of hardware incompatability.

    Confirmation would be even better!

I have the G50Vt-A1 and I have to say I love Vista 64. I have been using it for over a year now on my desktop and it has been extremely stable and has all the drivers I have ever needed. 64 bit blows away 32 bit in my opinion!

If anyone OCs the 9800m GS in this thing please let us know! I will be doing it shortly, but its already super hot in there! I have been an avid desktop overclocker, but have never tried my hand at laptops before.

On another note OP what are you doing to tweak Vista and what startup processes did you kill? I would like to do the same, but don't know where to start and all the guides I find on google are elementary!

Note that this was originally done on the G50V, but the hardware is basically the same as the G50Vt with the exception of the GPU, hence everything will still work.
