    Hi Guys,

Its a quick post, I'm just popping out...

Long story short, I'm gonna get an Asus G51vx-a1 or Asus G51jx-a1 from Asus as a replacement.

I've been reading the benchmarks for stock and I cannot see much of a difference for 3dmark, but cannot find any processor benchmarks specifically for these laptops.

What are peoples thoughts on the 2 laptops... performance wise? Is there much of a real world difference for gaming? and what about apps that are more processor intensive?

    Thanks,

The i7 720QM will probably outperform the Q9000 in most CPU intensive task and The DDR3 1333 (although spec say 1066 but most unit have shipped with 1333) RAM will also be a bit faster. Battery life will probably increase by a little bit being that the CPU does use a bit less power. So given a choice get the Jx.

Depends on what you're using it for. If you're using it (almost) exclusively for gaming, definitely go for the G51vx. The Q9000 shouldn't be perform horribly versus the i7-720QM, but the GTX 260m should beat the pants off the GTS 360m.

Hell, even if you're not going to be doing a lot of gaming, I would still stick with the G51vx-A1. I'm not entirely sure, but there's a lot more support for undervolting/overclocking C2Qs, so you have that option open to you, and you can always get better C2Qs. The turboboost of the i7 does give it an advantage in single-threaded applications, but even now a single-threaded application won't be gimped by a single core from a 2.0GHz C2Q.

If you want the best of both worlds, I suppose you could always dig around for a G51j.

    Nice one,

We will see what Asus sort out, but its currently a VX, but due to all my problems there reviewing my case and I've suggested they replace it with a JX, I'll see. After checking the stats after the fact, I think I'll be happy with the VX or JX, but I'm liking the idea of 2 HDDs on the VX and i7 of the JX. I'd however like to future-proof myself and take the more powerful device, but if the power is nominal the VX might be better considering the 2 HDD bays.

I'm also looking towards visualizing the device and would love to know if the JX fully support VT-d. If not then I'll defiantly go with the VX.

    Thanks,
