Hey, so I've had my g51 for a few months now and am happy with its performance so far. For some reason, however, Team Fortress 2 (which i just bought) is giving me a hard time. I usually get over 60 fps inside buildings and such, but when i'm outside when there's a lot of action going on, my fps drops to around 30 fps and lower depending on how much is going on. The settings are at max (4AA) and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in terms of fps when i change any of those settings. So, it seems like it would be the cpu, since that tends to come up a lot when I google about low fps in tf2. I tried the mat_queue_mode 2 thing, and didn't notice much of a difference, if any. Which is weird, because everyone says it does miracles, but it doesn't do anything for me. =\ I just enter in the command console, right? I've been trying to get my fps up, but nothing seems to be working. I'm not sure what to do. I know for a fact that this game should be performing much better, as other lower-end rigs with slower cpu's and weaker gpu's have been getting much better performance. I put everything on low, and the game still runs like crap during firefights with more than at least 8-10 people near each other. Especially the new halloween koth map runs terribly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also wondering how well other asus g51 owners are handling tf2 and tell me if you had to do anything different to get a better framerate.

I have an X1A and I handle TF2 just fine. It is definitely your CPU causing issues in TF2 if you have an RX05. I'd recommend OC'ing to 2.3-2.4GHz if possible.

I dont think CPU is the issue... I can play TF2 with my CPU undervolted and at stock clocks without any problem, and I'm running it at 1366x768, all maxed out but AA, Motion Blur ( I dont like it, so i disabled ) and Field of View..

I dont know exactly numbers in terms of FPS because it changes alot, but I noticed that inside buildings I get 120+ FPS, while in fights I never really paid attention xD But its not laggy...

oh, and I never did any special command on TF2 console or anything... The only thing that helped me with huge performance gain in games was a clean Vista installation xD

Ps.: Im using DOX 185.85, maybe you should try too if your not using it already?

I just got TF2 and I have everything maxed out and have no problems. Everything is stock on my computer with the only change being that I used the newest Nvidia drivers. Make sure you have all the Windows updates and try a different graphic driver like the newer Nvidia or the Dox ones.

Does he have multi-core rendering on..? could be that he's just running on a single core (which would be a slowdown)

thanks for the replies, i do have multicore rendering enabled. task manager says that both cores are being used, but the 2nd one is only at 50-75% usage or so while playing (depends on map, amount of people, etc.). i have the 186.82 nvidia drivers, maybe i should try the 185.85 dox drivers?

Just wanted to ask how good this game is. I've been looking for another multi-player experience and this looks fun for my A1 :)

Not sure what resolution your using but 1920x1080 can really slow down on me depending on the game although tf2 doesn't look that taxing. I usually try to keep most games at 1280x720 with 4xAA for glass smoothness (60fps and above).

TF2 is a pretty awesome game. Its not my favorite but is definitely one to pick up. Especially if you can get it for the recent 2.50$ deal.

This is why it's not your favorite.

Also, Soviet Sunrise is now a splendid one to behold. 1,000+ rep milestone!

Well, I just played a bit of TF, all settings maxed, 2xMSAA and vsync on a 32 battle on the halloween map...

I wan between 38fps and 60fps, depending on the madness on screen. Is there a way to improve this? I don't mind it too much though.

when i'm doing the exact same thing ^ i get ~25 fps when i'm outside, probably even lower at some points. it gets pretty bad. playing other maps though results in 35-100 fps for the most part. so i guess i should just stay away from that map... or only play with a small group of people on that map. i might edit some configs for better fps, i feel like i need this game running at 60+fps all the time.

Thanks, but it's not my model. TF2 is really fun and depends very heavily on teamwork, especially on 2fort.
