Ok so earlier today the laptop was working perfectly, i closed the lid putting it into hibernate and went on to do other things. When I came back the laptop would not turn on. I have removed the battery and power trying everything to turn it on. The ROG light, touchpad and splenid lights come on when i push the power button and do does the cd drive light but the computer does not turn on. No airflow from the fan, no cd drive spinning, no hdd light flashing, nothing!!

    Anyone else run into this?

Have you try stick in a paper clip into the reset pinhole at the bottom of the notebook?

Unplug, remove the battery, and then hold down the power button for 10 sec. Does the same thing as resetting with a paperclip.

My first G51 was replaced for a similar problem...it worked the first couple of times I rebooted, but the second day I had it the laptop would not boot.

whenever i place the paper clip in the hole there is nothing to press. I cant find the button in the hole to press? What does that mean if i do find the button/press it and it begins to work?

Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and try again.

there must be something weird in the waters as of late because my Asus G2s just happen to do the exact same thing.
I was using the laptop without any problems.... went to put it on standby... came back 3 hrs later and touched a key... no turn on.
So i press power button to totally shut off and try restart. The puter initializes turn on... battery light flickers, the dvd drive torques, then it just shuts back down. No boot screen appears at all. Nothing at all shows on screen whatsoever.
I brought it to Canada Computers where i bought it years ago and they could not get it to start either.
They tried re-seating the ram, nothing.
    They tried diff ram... nothing
They tried boot disk in drive... nothing.
Tried a diff harddrive.... nothing... still wont turn on
So they just gave me back my laptop and advised i should maybe send it to Asus in Markham. They suspect maybe the motherboard is gone. But forsures its a hardware issue.
It would be nice to know whats wrong with it and the possible cost to repair so i can then decide to either fix it or go buy another Asus (possible a G71)
Ive had absolutely no issues with this G2 since i bought it brand new. Im not a serious gamer at all but i like the performance of it for doing normal daily tasks. And the screen is killer.
And i dont know if i want to send it away and have to absorb possible bench costs just to estimate it will cost $$$$ to repair (or its not repairable at all)

Blueman since ur laptop is still under warranty please post what you find is the problem with yours.
    Thanks

When i contacted their tech support line I plainly spoke "Look im a 21 year old Computer Science Major, this is not some stupid little problem, so can we please skip the BS?" luckily she was an intelligent support tech and told me to try to press the "bowtie" button, when nothing changed she said she was going to send me a prepaid fedex box so i could send my laptop to them free of charge and have it repaired free also.

But I will be sure to relay what the exact problem is when i get it back!

Too bad Asus doesn't contract local techs and just overnight the parts over like Dell does.

    A possible solution here

    http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-40158-asus-laptop-does-not-power-up

Seems quite a few people have same experience. But one poster stated to take out battery and unplug power then hold power button down for 45secs the reinstall battery and plug and it will power up.

Unfortunately it didnt work for my Asus, maybe it'll do the trick for yours

How long have you had your G51? I was told that since mine died in the first 30 days (I had it for less than 24 hours) they had it sent to the California center to be tested and replaced instead of repaired as a DOA laptop.

Could be the RAM, try remove one stick of RAM at a time to test.

wouldn't that just bring up an error during boot up. The computer would still turn on if it was a ram issue.

i had a ram stick that wasn't installed all the way and when I tried to boot up, all the lights would turn on, but I got no screen and it would shut itself off soon after.
