I am considering an Asus Laptop but I am concerned about how good the warranty is in the USA. I have seen in 2 different reviews commenting that it was not very good. I know it says that it is 2 years but here is a quote from one review : " Asus' support options aren't as varied as those of major American manufacturers: You'll pay for shipping a notebook back and for help-center calls, which you can place only between TK and TK." This sounds like there is no toll free number and the cost of shipping a laptop back could be very expensive.

Is their warranty truly this bad? If so i will have to rethink getting an Asus.

As long as they are taking it back and you aren't being jerked around by tech support people in India who don't know jack crap about computers and have names like John Smith and Mary Johnson (like I care what they call themselves).

First, you're dealing with an Asus notebook, which has an Asus motherboard, graphics card (which have the very best parts on board)... excellent screens from the top 3-4 lcd makers... Those are the most important things because those are things that when they go bad, they need to go in for repair because you can't simply swap them out without knowing what you're doing... and you're already starting out with the top end in those terms.

From there, yes Asus has a toll-free number for support and rma work - I think most people first call up their sales line which is a 510 number, but that's not where you should call.

In terms of shipping, it depends on the situation and the problem. Most of the time, shipping is split. You pay shipping to Asus and they overnight or 2day the system back to you. If they pay shipping both ways, they may do three day business both ways or something.

The moral of the story is, you're buying a better notebook which is a better value...... something that most people never need to send in, but if you send it in once and pay $50 to ship it to them, it's going to get turned around quickly and get back you. Now, if the screen or motherboard simply die, they may overnight or 2 day it both ways for that..... but that's rare with such quality parts, but it does happen..... there has to be some room for failure with electronics and as long as it's many times better than the failure rates of others out there, it's a good thing.
