Asus has to get involved in more Linux open source driver projects to make their notebooks more compatible. Almost all new Asus notebooks have issues with sound and ACPI in Linux. In most cases you can find a solution, but in many cases you are left with a crippled system. It is now time for Asus to get involved with open source driver project's to help their notebooks run smoothly on Linux platforms. Doing so will help them develop a new market, a market that one day will dominate computing.

Had a hard enough time getting them to divulge their source for the eee acpi module... although kudos to them eventually getting in compliance with the GPL. I agree it would be nice to have some updated ACPI functionality in the asus_laptop module. I have to tweak it on my N10J to get everything right. On my G50V I have much fewer problems with Linux.

As for whether opensauce can ever dominate, that is for users to determine. At the moment it's more flamebait than anything else, even though I'd like to see it myself.. "year of teh linux desktop" -
I don't see open source dominating for a long loooonnnnng time if ever (which is doubtful). Most consumers are technically not inclined. OSX I can see getting somewhere if Apple ever decides to get off their high horse. Windows 7 probably will be a very very good OS. People like simplicity and familiarity.
It also doesn't help that there's no one source of Linux but a variety of distros.
