First post! Just to let New Yorkers or visitors to NYC that Datavision in midtown has started stocking Asus notebooks. I spotted them today. Don't know anything about the quality of the store but at least a place to check out the machines - prices seem competitive e.g. $1440 for a8jm. On display today were v6j, w3j, a8f, s6f - they stock 12 models - see their website (not sure if i can put it here so i won't)I'm interested in w7j but it's not on display currently - also interested in a8jm but could be a little heavy for my purposes.

For more models, try checking out Geared2Play - also located in NY, in the Bronx(lol, I think I just made up his location), I'm pretty sure there are a few models there as well if you want to check it out.
-
What's the address of it? I might swing by there during my lunch break and check it out?
And is this geared2play actually a store, or is that just the location of the factory. I was lookin around on the site, but it would be awsome to be able to actually go down there and either order the machine or check them out. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..

I was wondering.. if there are any other ASUS resellers that are located in new york- (milestonepc, proportable, etc.) This is so shipping charges won't be huge- ex. sending back and forth the notebook for repairs/problems.

G2P is in Brooklyn. I don't have a car so it would take a little bit of trouble to get over there - just lazy I guess! -
One other thing. I did buy a XD card for my camera there and the price was different from the price on the website. I told the sales guy and he was a little bit evasive, 'yes, website has different prices' but then knocked a few dollars off, still not the same price but i was in a hurry so bought it. Not sure if this 'pricing policy' applies to notebooks too - there doesn't seem to be an in-store pickup service but maybe if you phone them. I could be wrong but i get the feeling prices are not set in stone so haggling might be an option if you want to try!
-
also, if you're in ny and are buying from a store in ny i.e. g2p, you might not have to pay shipping due to pick up, but you'll have to pay the hefty 8.625 sales tax, ouch.
-
i dont want to pay either shipping nor sales tax -

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
You're talking about $30-35 in shipping charges on a $1200+ notebook; most wouldn't consider that excessive.

What you want to do is live as close to a store as possible, while not being in the same state. I live just across the NY border, only about 30 minutes from G2P. I only had to pay about $10 to ship it, and I didn't have to pay tax. Also, packages go from my house to G2P in 1 business day. It's fast, easy, and cheap. -
Umm well I live in Brooklyn, NY also so do sales tax apply?
Btw where is milestone located? in Canada? -
They are based in Canada, but they have a new place in the States, I believe it was in Fremont, California.

Ordered my barebones from G2P on their website and had it shipped to my house like anyone else would. Didn't have to pay tax, like most people. But shipping was almost instant, and it was cheap. About $10. Arrives next-day. So I got my notebook faster, avoided tax, and if I ever have to send it in, shipping charges will be low, and turnaround times will be shorter. And if I ever need to, I can drive to G2P in about half an hour. In my opinion, there is no better way to get a computer!
