Hi guys,
A friend of mine recently traveled to London, UK to get his MBA. I am helping him decide on getting a new laptop there. I remember reading something in the forums that Asus UK support is not so good. Can someone confirm this to me? My understanding is that ensemble models can now be found in most retailers but what about built on? Are they available in London or not?
It would be cool if he can get the same laptop as mine, or even better with core duo 2.
Thanks in advance guys!

I haven't dealt with service so far, but there are a few places I have been in London to look at Asus notebooks, check this out:

Also have you searched the forums for buying in the UK? I have posted a few other times in other threads on where to buy Asus Laptops, what model are you after? the place down Totenham Court Rd has the best selection of Asus models. -
Thanks, done some research and found the people who sell it. Now my question if I can narrow it down is not so much where to find it, but more to do with tech support of Asus UK. Although I deal with the US, I remember quite a few times people were complaining of the level of support ASUS UK offers. I just want to confirm this if anyone can help.

I'm having lots of fun and games with Asus tech support and their RMA centre in the UK, called CRC. If you search my thread on "Initial A8F Review" all will be revealed.
Re built on Asus models, Nexus 13 do them. -
wow just finished reading that thread, looks like I will suggest my friend get something other than Asus. Don't want him to get a lemon by chance and call up the UK support and get that level of support. Then I am sure we will lose him forever as an Asus customer. Probably going to suggest he gets a Dell.
Thanks -
Pin, what a bad run, from my experience of living in the UK for 3 years, any service suxs full stop! and by reading all of your posts, sound like UPS are as not really helping with the situation either.
I feel for you man, I hope it works out, I tried to get a replacement cable from LG for an external CD drive, talk about useless, after a barrage of emails and phone calls, they sent me the wrong cable 4 times! even after I sent them pictures and links on the internet to the correct part..... after 1 year I gave up, bunch of muppets!
Out of principle I will never buy another LG product while im in the UK, I mean how difficult is it to get a replacement USB cable!
Would be good to hear from other people..... -
It's the phone centre for the repair place that I've had problems with; the actual repairs have been OK. I've just had a bad time dealing with the people who've answered the phone, who don't seem to have a clue what's going on; don't send emails or phone when they say they will; don't seem to get that when you've told them you are without a computer, sending you emails or return labels to print is very ineffective. You get a different person every time you phone, and they don't know enough about the computers or models to answer any questions or discuss it with you.
However I've had no problems with the actual repair people, or the delivery/collection or anything.
And one time when I phoned I got someone clear and sensible and really on the ball, and took his email address and dealt with it all that way, which was much, much more helpful. But that was just luck.
That said, I don't suppose it's worse than other repair places, and I'd probably still go with ASUS again; the problem I have are with the particular model I have, and I'd hope not to have all these issues with a different model.
I got mine at MicroAnvika on Tottenham Court Road; there were a couple of other shops there that had them as well. They had nothing to do with it as soon as you've bought it (or once the 2 weeks are up or whatever) - they just tell you to phone the service centre. -
Thanks for the response guys I called up my friend and told him about the feedback I got here. Suggested he get a dell.

From those that have purchased an Asus in the UK, would you say it puts you off buying an Asus? would you buy Asus again? as long as it gets fixed properly, service is not something I worry about (probably because I have been really lucky and never used service in 6 years of owning laptops) I would rather have a better laptop to use, the comments made here would not make me recommend someone not to buy Asus, but heay thats just my opinion. -
I had to call ausu uk support once, i found them to be very good.

I sent my 3 week old notebook to the UK service centre in late July. They sent it back 2 weeks later still not working. I sent it back and some 6 weeks later I still do not have it back. Never in my life have I had to deal with such woeful service as I have with the Service Centre and Tech Support. I would never again buy an ASUS - in fact I am currently pursuing a refund so I can avoid dealing with these guys ever again!

To my surprise I actually had a call from ASUS today telling me that I will have it back by Tuesday at the latest. Its about the 5th date I've had so I won't hold my breath. Unfortunately my questions and emails as to why it has taken this long remain unanswered.....

Geez im getting a bit worried for when I have to go back to the UK......
Mind you I have had plenty of peoblems with any kind of service in the UK, so that's no surprise. Best thing I find is, find phone number ring someone up and give them a bullocking, its the only way you get results.
Although that should not be necessary, can you complain to Asus directly? thas prety poor. -
And finally it came back and it works, some 9.5 weeks after I sent it in the first time. The service centre has told me they are going to investigate my complaints - should be interesting.
Asus in the UK??
