my laptop is a K53SD, but I want my keyboard to be backlit, so I bought an ASUS backlit keyboard (not meant for my laptop of course) and was going to mod my laptop so the light works

problem is.. the keyboard fits, but doesn't work correctly, all leters/numbers are basically messed up, so the letter S is like F8
I tried 2 programs to remap the keys, but problem with that is some keys don't seem to have a "key function" so it doesn't show up as any key and so I can't remap it

does anyone know how to solve this? could reinstalling windows help? or was I stupid in thinking this backlit keyboard would work with my K53?

Probably an issue with the replacement keyboard talking wrong over the cable to the motherboard that it wasn't designed to work with. Likely is something that can't be corrected since the kb is one for a different notebook model.

Perhaps more can be offered if you indicate the model or part number of the replacement and/or the model it was supposed to be a replacement for ...

It is possible that the keyboard is defective (or the connector is dirty/not seated properly), although more likely the keymap of the keyboard is different, and this is a BIOS-level function. Unfortunately you will not be able to use the keyboard with your computer.

Can you post pics of the original keyboard's ribbon connector?
