Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone used the VGA output on their laptop to output to component as I got a VGA to component cable.....looking for experiences...

Not I, just curious tho - what are you hooking it up to that has component but not HDMI?

If you have the cable, then why not try it yourself?

Im hooking it up to a HD tube tv that has component but not hdmi....
Im asking cause it currently isnt working, and my friend said the video card has to have a special out for component.....I have a N81VP with 4650 radeon....should it output component through VGA? -
I'm not honestly sure if it can. You may need something like this:

In my experience, this only works with some older ATI cards, but no recent ATI or Nvidia ones. The card has to have the signaling component built in. They don't do that anymore.
There are, of course, external boxes that will convert your VGA into anything you want: component, composite, DVI or HDMI. But they're much more expensive than a cheap VGA to Component cable. If you've got an HDMI out, your best bet would probably be an HDMI to Component adapter. They are relatively cheap.
Monoprice has the best prices for stuff like this if you're still interested. -
