A friend of mine has an Asus laptop. It says Model z7100a on the bottom. It hadn't been scanned for viruses in god knows how long, and had all kinds of malware on it. I scanned it with McAfee without updating the virus definitions, just to see if I could get the major viruses off and it found 3 which it removed. I planned on updating it once she could log in to her McAfee account to update it afterwards.

I then updated AdAware, scanned it and removed the 92 some-odd things it found. As Ad-Aware was removing them, it shut down abruptly and will not turn back on. I plugged in the charger, even though the battery had some charge when I looked at it last, and still nothing. Any ideas how to get this thing to reboot? The only thing it does when I push the power button is that it lights up only momentarily and then goes out. If I hold the button, it does the same thing. Any suggestions or insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hmmm, check the bottom, is it really hot? Perhaps you should open up the bottom and clean it out, I have a feeling there will be alot of dust accumulated there.

The bottom is cool to the touch. There is *some* dust in the fans that I can see, but nothing that looks abnormal.

That's abnormal then, perhaps leave it off for a good 30minutes or so, and then try booting up again. A fresh reformat would also be a good idea.

That is really strange. Just for the heck of it, try unplugging the battery and using just the power chord when you boot....
