good day:
I am working on an asus n51vn-x1 laptop here and the laptop has an interesting problem that i couldnt figure out why eventhough i am around computer so often. here is the problem...
as a backround i think the most important thing would be is that the computer was running vista, then we upgraded with the win 7 upgrade cd came from asus.
the problem is sometimes when i restart the computer or just turn on, the computer turns on funny, such as the graphics look wierd (litle blurry than regular start up), sleep and hibernate gets disabled, can not play videos properly, the bar on the bottom on the screen the taskbar it is called i assume is all white not transparent, and so on.
It only does this sometimes i would say 30% of the time when i start or reboot the computer. When this happens i restart the computer and it goes back to normal. I couldnt figure out why it does that. I have installed the latest drivers for the gforce the problem persists.
I think what i will do if nobody has any idea here why this happens is that i will install windows 7 ultimate and see if it changes anything. maybe it is because of the upgrade and asus compy of the from win vista to win 7 upgrade OS cd? I hope somebody here will say that "I am familiar of this problem heard it before and thats how you fix it". thanks in advance. appreciate for your time.

Have you tried it on an external monitor to rule out a problem with the LCD or LVDS cable for the LCD?

I tried to look for a pattern when it bots wierd like that to find out what causes the problem but i failed to find it! -

Maybe you should try upgrading the graphics drivers, have you done that?
-
Yes i did try upgrading the graphics drivers. But if it was bc of the graphics why the heck it disables sleep and hibernating options? When i go to start and choose one of those options at the shutdown options the sleep and hibernate are grayed out???
Why it always gotta be the most common, never heard of issues have to find me all-the-time??? -

Look at your event viewer for errors: Open Event Viewer
Look in device manager and make sure no drivers are missing: Open Device Manager -
I have never checked the even viewer, that is a brilliant idea.
Maybe i should just make him to switch it to ubuntu??? -

I suspect either your platform drivers or graphics drivers are messed up. Make sure you're using the win7 drivers. You can get them here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N51Vn

You need to rma it, the n51vn has a defective gpu. I just did but i still suspect it to.
