    hey,

so i got a brand new asus n56jv laptop and its great, but i have noticed the last few days that the battery is not completely fixed in place, its a little bit loose and making an annoying clicking noise when the battery is pressed towards the laptop's body (especially when i place the laptop over my lap). charging is completely normal. i checked the interior of the battery socket and its completely intact (no broken parts and the locking switch seems completely ok).

i wonder if anyone else experiencing this issue?

is it a problem worth contacting asus asking for replacement or im just an anal perfectionist and that is just the way the model is designed?

    thanks!

I've seen this from time to time on other manufacturers' laptops. I think the mechanism that holds it in place is not exactly perfect, so there's a small amount of wiggle (if you will). If you're concerned about the clip that secures it, you're welcome to send it in per your warranty. But as long as there are no problems, I see no need to raise any red flags. Just be sure to document how bad it is now and check back on it once in awhile; if it gets any worse, then you may want to contact support. :)

So when you insert the battery all the way in you hear a click? Have you tried locking the battery in place and do you still notice a click? If so then you may have to send the unit in for service to repair that symptom. If you are still under the return policy with the retailer from when you purchased from then return it for an exchange.

    thanks for the reply.

the battery locks fine and it does click when it locks. after it already been locked the battery stays quite loose, so it wiggle when pressed upwards and that's what makes the clicking sound. i guess its just a poor mechanism and its really surprising since the rest of the laptop seems really high end..

funny thing.. just wanted to share:

i have inserted a piece of paper folded twice (0.4 mm or 0.016 inches) between the battery and the computer and the lock mechanism didn't click! i folded the piece of paper once and the locking mechanism worked normally and the wiggle is gone! so it seems the the whole loose was about 0.2 mm/0.008 inches. makes me realize its not a manufacture defect.. its a tiny tiny tiny gap and probably meant to give the battery room to expand or something.

Homebrew fixes: nothing like 'em. Although it's perfectly normal, that's good to hear that you found a quick fix for it! Sometimes people will dismiss the overall quality of a unit based on small annoyances like that.

    Thanks for sharing!
