Yes, I believe it is, but don't take that as a sign for an upgradable GPU.

    agreed.
Even if it does have one, you need to find one that has the n80's heatsink arrangement, meaning it would have to be produced by asus, and because they do not offer any stronger card in the n80, i don't think they make a stronger card at all (for the n80).

The removable modular video card is for repair purpose so Asus don''t have to swap the mb for a defective GPU.

the VGA BIOS is embed into the MB BIOS so if you swap the card the computer won't even post, checkout this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=348865

The V1J BIOS is looking for ATI X1600 but the notebook has ATI X1700.

The only model that is possible to upgrade the video card will be G50V since it share the same BIOS as G50Vt.

No. The 9650m GT is physically built into the motherboard.

    Not it's not built-in on the mainboard :) :

But still it doesn't mean it's upgradable.

hello, i know this thread is a little old, but i have a semi-relavent question.

i have an X83vb-x1, which as you know comes with a 9300m GS video card. i snagged a 9500m GS from a M50SV. got it from ebay for 30 shipped (a steal).

now ive been doing ALOT of research to see if it will be compatible. from what you say, it would seem to not be since the vbios is embedded in the MB bios.

now, is it at all possible to extract the vbios from say the M50SV, and unsing a bios editor, to embed the M50SV vbios into the X83VB MB bios?

im not against trying this, but i cannot find any information about this process.

any help would be appreciated. please dont just say its too much work, i honestly want to try it, i fully understand the risks of bricking my MB, and that it may not be possible to recover in the event something bad happens.

ok so i found something potentially interesting.

my laptop, the X83Vb-X1 has a 9300m GS video card
the X83Vm-X1 has a 9600m GS video card

and looking at the two they look identical other than the video card and CPU. and a look at Asus' support site shows that these two models use the same BIOS. so theoretically i should be able to use the 9600m GS with my X83Vb. anyone else ever looked into this?
