Sorry for the noob questions but here it goes.

I've decided on building my next laptop, so that's lead me here (and to the MSI forum), but there are just too many different models, and so many of them are "coming soon". Half of the ones that are "coming soon" have very little information associated with them. The naming conventions (yes I read and re-read the F.A.Q.) don't make much sense to me.

A generic all incluve list might help everyone, but honastly I'm interested in 15.4", 14.1", or 13.3" with dedicated GPU's and a good processor Core Duo (assuming I can upgrade to Merom[64-bit] or Turion64 X2 [when they released]).

Is there any simple listing of ASUS laptops, currently available or coming soon, out there? I know some of the "coming soon" laptops are already on pre-order at some sites.

Thanks for all the help, Great forum by the way!

No simple inclusive list that I've seen, anyway.

For Asus naming protocols, also try here
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=47570&highlight=naming

For existing and previous model names to check and then put together a search from (sorry, it's a list), see here
    http://www.notebookforum.ca/phpbb2/docs/Benchmark.htm

For upcoming models not yet released, you'll have to pull together a list from existing posts, but these include the w7j, v1j, Z62j, Z96j, S96j, A8ja/m, VX1. Should be some others too, but can't remember them all right this second - perhaps others can fill these in.

Will probably end up taking a bit of work, but you should find what you need eventually :)

anything that ends in J is what you're looking for.
J stands for Core Duo with Dedicated Graphics.
ClearSkies has listed all the models you might be interested in. add in W3J (14.1" WXGA/x1600) as well. note how each model on his list ends with J (except for the VX1 aka the overpriced and underpowered Lamborghini branded notebook, IMO).

the Z prefix designates "Built On", the customizable line of notebooks. Z62J (14"), Z96J (15.4") are probably the best bets.

Great, Is there anything out there for upcoming AMD X2 notebooks (with dedicated GPU's)? Is there a standard naming sceme (like the J thing) that will help me identify them? The F.A.Q. doesn't mention X2 names like the Core Duo ones.

    Thanks again.

not that i'm aware of. Asus and Intel have a bit of a partnership going on now with the S models (S96J), so AMD seems unlikely.

Hmm, just noticed that your right. I thought Asus used to be a big supporter of AMD!?! Now that AMD Turion X2's are out, that's a minus for ASUS.

I'll try to compile a list with specs of the core duo's with dedicated GPU's that you've both mentioned.

    Well, there is this thing

Not out yet, but pretty exciting, no?

Edit: I'm assuming the "T" in A6T denotes the AMD chip, but that's just a shot in the dark

Would you care to offer any justification or evidence for such a comment??

Asus makes some of the best notebooks out there, and the quality (in particular the Ensemble series, even their budget line) is superior in every way. The Built-on units are also superior, especially those in the past that were based on Ensemble platforms, and current models give great features for price and are quite competitive with other larger manufacturers. I don't see what the "big" risk is all about....perhaps it will all be more clear when you elaborate on your story?

Just to add on my last question are the A6T's shipping right now or are they still pre-orders, mainly because I need to get a laptop before mid-June, which is most ways is really quite annoying, but never mind, I will carry on, I was hoping that even if the Turion X2's turn out to be worse for performance in production models it should bump the price down on the core duo laptops.
