I found an Asus netbook at NewEgg for a lower price of $350 (originally $470+), but it is an open box deal.

Can I trust this? I wonder if this will come with a charger? Anybody dealt with open boxes from NewEgg?

    Thanks in advance.

I would try to avoid open boxes as much as possible.

Open Box items @ NEgg generally ship with only the unit itself, and none of the original accessories included (discs, mouse, sleeve, etc).... that may also mean the AC charger.

I do not know (never bothered to investigate, actually) whether the original Asus warranty would remain in force on OB products - as this is now not a *new* item and you are not the initial purchaser - since NewEgg does not allow returns on OB merchandise and Asus is usually the responsible party for any warranty work needed on product purchased @ NEgg.

Don't buy a newegg open box...
They are usualyl returned items, some defective.
I know a guy who got a mouse with a cut cord (open box) and while newegg os amazing service wise, due to their policy, they could not take it back...
Spend a little more and get it new IMO

It should come with a charger, just not the other accessories. A charger is required for the unit to be functional so it would make absolutely no sense for an open box item not to have one. I don't know from experience, that's just what I think. If others have real world experience receiving no AC adapter w/openbox please post about it.

Newegg is decent, and exceedingly fast on the East Coast at least, for stuff you know is good. For borderline stuff like open box, it's best to resist adding to cart. They won't accept returns on it.

While I've returned/exchanged plenty of faulty gear to newegg without issue, the one time I had to call them with a weird problem I was treated like an idiot, and they didn't solve my problem. They gave me a bad attitude and I was super nice and clear with my request (one I know they were capable of handling - they couldn't be bothered however). I only called them once but that was my experience. I had to end up contacting Microsoft, and they took care of me since I contract for a channel partner. For a regular user they'd have been out of luck in my situation.

Long story short, consider a smaller specialty notebook retailer (like the ones that frequent this forum) over Newegg in my opinion. They will support you in a much more honest way and have direct access to the manufacturers to work out weird problems.

I bought my G50V-A2 from BUY.COM because the price was the best and I planned on voiding my warranty upgrading to a T9600 (which I did -- where is the T9800?!?). Ken from GenTech has been more than helpful with the problems related to the G50V, providing access to beta revisions of the BIOS for users willing to test them. That impressed me, so I purchased my N10J-A2 from GenTech even though it wasn't the best price. I actually care about the warranty service on my N10J since I will never void it with hardware upgrades.

i saw an asus N80vn the other day in the student center. the guy had gone to newegg.com after black friday and ordered an open box betting that it had just been returned. he was right, the open box he got was simply from someone who had returned the whole thing right after he got it (guess he just needed the money back). it even came in with the original receipt from the previous purchase. to sum up he got a new computer for 400 dollars off.

i thought that open box items were checked and not defective??? and that they always came with the power adapter minus all the other that usually unecessary anyway that come with IMO laptops

note: if the open box is defective you can return it for replacement

Newegg.com offers a 15-day refund-only return policy for all open box merchandise. Remember if you purchase a Open Box product you will receive an OEM BAREBONE item, meaning you will only receive the item itself. Open Box items have been opened and touched and/or returned. Because they originate from different situations, they may or may not include accessories, documentation or retail packaging. Refurbishment is done by the manufacturer. Open Box products are warranted for only 15 days. We recommend that you try out your open box product immediately after receiving it.

Thanks everyone. It was the open box "ASUS Eee PC EPC1002HA-BLK006X" for $350. I went a head and bought a brand new one to keep a peace of mind.

Congrats on your new purchase :)
Yes, I wouldn't want to take the chance of not receiving the proper accessories for a system to work properly.
