Asustek Computer is scheduled to launch its new Eee PC, the E1004DN, which will be the first Eee PC to have an optical disc drive (ODD), in mid-April, and will follow with the 1008HA in May, according to sources at retail channels.

The E1004DN is built with an Intel Atom N280 CPU paired with GN40 chipset, a 120GB hard drive, and will carry a suggested retail price of NT$18,000-20,000 (US$531-590).

Slot loaders rule. I want to swap my flimsy tray loader for one if I ever go Bluray.

New images posted. Doesn't look like a slot-load ODD.

This is what I was waiting for. Nice. Now I just have to wait for a eee pc with the ion platform and maybe a bit higher res for the screen and Im in. It will happen. I just hope it will happen this year.

This should be the new standard of netbooks!

They are small and great computer, but being able to watch a dvd on the go would be a great feature. Asus has to keep the cost down however. These computers are just not worth over $450 in my opinion.

Something I miss from my 10" Eee.

Netbooks that come with an ODD will not come cheap. Other than the actual cost of the ODD, Intel does not offer any rebates for manufacturers for using their Atom processors, hence the cost will be significantly higher compared to other netbook w/o ODDs.

Yes I also agree a dvd drive is gonna be what at least $60-$100 on the base price? I want to see sloat loading though that will probably cost even more.

Rahul a intel 4500 seems WAY too generous thats definitely a typo .....if for some amazing reason it isn't that would be stunning. I would welcome that with open hands. Now all want to see now is 1280 x 800 screens THEN we will be in business.
