Since fixed chips from intel just started shipping yesterday, I'm betting not that soon. The mainstream SNB parts are due out later this month (I think?). Combined with the chipset recall delay, it'll probably be at least another month at the earliest.

Do you guys think it will be as good as the U41 JF (Graphics and battery life)?

By the looks of the thinness in design, I'm going to venture a guess that the graphics will be either comparable or worse than the U41JF, and the battery life could be comparable depending on the capacity of the battery they're putting in. The U41JF however has a very high capacity battery (83WHr I think?) and it doesn't look like the K3 series will have that big of a battery by design.

As per what I've read, the U41 JF has a nVidia 425M card. The K3 series will have either a 540M/550M which will beat the 425M easily. The K3 series will obviously have a better graphics card than the ultraportable!

Battery life will obviously be lesser than the ultraportable!

Do you have a source of the information that says it'll have either a 540M/550M?

I forgot to check the Optimus site before I posted, and they list it as coming with 520M.

    ASUS K53SD
    15"
    GeForce GT 520M

    ASUS K43SD
    14"
    GeForce GT 520M

The 520M sounds like a downgrade from the U41JF's 425M according to Notebookcheck.

Yes the 550M was an assumption based on what they did in the N series and the fact that prev K series have featured fast mid level GPUs (example ATI 5730 - 2GB VRAM).
Also Page 9 of the magazine here at Tech in Style CES 2011 Special says that for K3 laptops, there is nVidia GT graphics card with memory upto 2GB VRAM.

The GT 550M has a 2GB version which sits in the N53SN ---> ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks - ASUS N53SN

I dont know if cards like GT 520M, 540M also support 2GB VRAM. It seems that you have a more valid point here with your Optimus link. Or maybe there will be several K3 versions still in the pipeline some of which may have GT 550M 2GB VRAM
But the 520M sucks big time. I hope they have atleast one offering with GT 550M 2GB VRAM

New K3 series models updated on main ASUS website. Here is the link to K43SV -------> ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks - ASUS K43SV

There are also links to K53XX,K73XX laptops. And yes, the K43SV can be configured with 540M 2GB VRAM!

If the specifications are right, it seems thicker (1.3") and heavier (5.4 lbs) than I would've imagined early on. The battery capacity isn't too impressive either (56WHr vs. 83WHr on the U41JF), so the battery life probably won't be stellar.

It does look alright, though. :p
