I'm thinking in purchasing a C90 for DAW/ music production,

but I'd like to hear experiences from other people about how well Asus notebooks performs in this very specific field ( like firewire compatibility with
    external audio interfaces,etc,etc)

Thanks a lot for your input,

I just received an M-Audio 1814 and so far it's working fine on a 15' cable. I haven't messed with it much aside from verifying that it works.

I just heard that many Asus laptops use the infamous "Ricoh" firewire chipset,

that's bad news :( :( , DELL users trying to make some serious audio production are living a nigtmare thanks to the firewire problems (Ricoh),

Loopty can you check your 1814 performance at 128 and 256 latency settings?

I guess another alternative can be using a firewire exprescard, that raises

    another question:

Anyone using a firewire card sucessfully?

    Thanks a lot!! :D

I'll go check it when I get the time. You're gonna make me read the manual aren't you :p
I don't even have ProTools installed yet.

For the chipset my V1Jp has a Ricoh 832. I got ProTools installed but haven't had a chance to try recording yet. I'll try a 2 track with 256 and 128 buffer tomorrow.

Edit: 128 and 256 buffer sizes are not working on the V1Jp. It works a little while with some pops and then ProTools reports excessive CPU usage and stops recording (96khz 24bit). It's weird because the CPU usage level never went above 10%. I tried disabling network adapters, setting ProTools to realtime priority, disabling all power saving features on the CPU and chipset. If I ever try a firewire card I'll let you know what happens.
