Singapore, April 24, 2007 -- ASUS has announced 3 Years Limited Warranty for all models of ASUS notebooks, making ASUS the first brand in Singapore to offer 3 Years Warranty for its full range of notebooks. This will add an additional 1 year of local warranty on top of its existing 2 year international warranty.........

That's very interesting. I hope that comes to North America too. That would put Asus on par with LG in terms of warranty, although Asus's 3rd year is local instead of global. Still, I paid $130 CAD to get that third year on my G1.
As an aside, are these warranties transferable? -
Very interesting. Though I wonder what order will it be, since the 2 years are global and the last year is local only.
LG has 3 year warranty on selected notebooks, but it seems the ASUS warranty passes on to ALL its notebooks in this case. -
Warranties are nothing more than insurances and all insurances are underwritten as to protect the manufacturer from unforseen losses.
The added one yr warranty for the Singapore market means that that market probably has abnormally low warranty claims.
Low claims for any particular market means low risk for the manufacturer to offer an additional yr.
Id like to see the stats between the Asia market and the North America market
If theres no impact on added costs on the initial purchase of any Asus lap in Singapore then its a great deal for them.
The best part of all this is resale value. Hope the same warranty becomes globally -
Warranties are a bit more complicated than that...

"Warranties are a bit more complicated than that..."
For instance, a longer warranty gives the consumer more confidence that the product is of good quality, seeing as the manufacturer is standing by the product and not just dumping it on the consumer. -
more complicated than what???
Why make a comment like you have done without transponding further?
I worked in the insurance/warranty industry so ill let you reply more before i do again -
If ASUS is confident enough to give away a free year of warranty, it pretty much sums up what they think about their product.
-
That's what I mean. In the same way, when I was considering what laptop to buy I took a look at LG's models even though I had never heard of LG laptops before, simply because their 3 year warranty (on select models) gave me more confidence about them. Also, it was just around the time I was considering my purchase that Asus change their warranty to 2 years global. Conversely, I was wary of Acer because of their short 1 year warranty (and also due to some negative anecdotes from friends).
Basically, what I'm saying is that I seriously consider the length of warranty on a product, and although it is not the only factor in evaluating the quality of a product, it certainly adds some weight in that direction. -
who said the third year was free? A three year warranty is great to include, but the fact that they're including it doesn't mean it won't be factored into pricing.
-
True, there could be a price increase, but from assumptions, what majority would really pay for an extra year for warranty?
-
Either the product is very reliable and the consumers want to buy in to that, or they're not as reliable as they might seem (think General Motors).
-
Now, if they followed Seagate and made all their warranties 5 year, we wouldn't have to worry about it for even longer.
Asus now has 3yr warranty
