Yes I know another c90 thread but I think this will answer all your questions about the future mxm upgrades for the c90. Many people are doubting it and are concerned about it even though there have been other sources that have stated that asus promises upgrades. Just because the 8700m is not
compatible asus "promises" upgrades. Just saw so many posts in various threads about the upgrades and people asking where asus made that claim I decided to finally give a link and info. This is info from computex where asus displayed the c90.

Quote regarding MXM upgrades:
Lastly we have to talk about the notebooks MXM graphics modules, which were first introduced over three years ago. MXM promised to provide full graphics upgradeability to notebook users, but in reality, due to the proprietary design nature of most notebooks, no one has really tried a fully user-upgradeable notebook. Another key problem has been that MXM modules simply havent been available to purchase anywhere, so even when a new graphics chip came out, you couldnt go out, buy it, and put it in your notebook. ASUS is adamant about future support for the C90, and although they havent said exactly how they will offer future MXM graphics chips to end users, the company promised that they would.

I talked to an Asus representative the other day and they said their future support will depend directly on initial sales. I guess that is kinda...duh, though.

I can only hope more people will buy into barebone/upgradeable platform. As it's a step in the right direction for future mobile solution. It benefits the users in cost, flexibility, and longevity of a laptop. It's something that's been lacking for years in the mobile industry. Also Nvidia seems to emphasize that they will support MXM more in their next generation gpu's; which is a good sign.

I just hate that it's note actually a Centrino platform. I dont' see any reason why giving it the full mobile platform would make it any less customizable.
