I quickly reach temperatures of 95 deg. celcius when playing any king of game. No background services of note running.

When i first got the notebook i could play nfs2 underground without the temperatures rising over 75. Now they skyrocket after 2 minutes of playing simcity 4.

Anyone else having issues with overheating? I know its not a sensor error, since i can "smell" the heat ;)

Well my first guess is a faulty fan...if cooling was good then it stops sudenly, the usual cause is a dying fan....note that asus probe could still report that the fan is spinning even if its dead so best to see/feel/put your ear close to the outlet and findout. The only other thing I can think of to explain it is that something is blocking the vents....mabye try giving it a good cleanout.
I would also seriously consider taking it back for repairs. Dont want that cpu to fry!
    good luck

Not common, but the fan is the problem...

What cpu and hard drive are you using in your notebook? It might have something to do with the problem. If it's running too hot, the fan would be working overtime and that could lead to a premature death (like like it would if we worked overtime all the time [ ;)])

My w3v also runs hot while playing a game. It seems to be around 88C...which to me seens very hot. Can anyone tell me what should be a "normal" temp while playing a game? (the fan works)

... depends on the game, but 88c would be normal for a system under a heavy load.......

now, if you optical drive and graphics processor were also under a heavy load, as it might be in a game, you're going to have a lot of heat to get rid of.

Operating temps can range up to about 110 before the system shuts itself down to protect it from over heating.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I have plenty of s5 spare fans. They are free just pay shipping via ups ground if you need it. If you fan works then you dont need it
