I was just looking at the Asus units available on Amazon and GenTech for pre-order and I noticed that all of them will come with the 64-bit version of Windows 7. This is a big deal because since Windows Vista came out, Asus has routinely installed 32-bit versions of Vista in machines that came with 4GB RAM and 1GB video cards, meaning that not all of the memory could be addressed by the operating system. It just did not make sense why Asus would prevent the hardware in their machines to be fully used. However, it seems like they have now corrected this glaring error in judgment and in my opinion, it's about time!

As an example, I have hypertension and purchased a BP monitor that interfaces with the PC. While the software works with Windows 7 32 bit it doesn't with Windows 7 64 bit. So there are still some compatability issues out there..........

There are quite a few compatibility issues. Star Trek Elite Force no longer working on Windows 7 x64 (it did on my Gateway with Windows 7 x86) is just another one, not in the least as important as the one above me of course.

it is about time! i still dont understand why people even go for 32-bit os. it is just senseless fear of incompatibility.

Can you get Starcraft to work on win 7 64 bit by chance ?

I think also it is a good decision from ASUS.
There are ofcourse some softwares out there that do not work well under 64bit system. One example that comes to my mind is Ashampoo Magical Defrag.
But I think most of the newer softwares and games does work well under 64bit.
I have been running Vista 64bit at home for over a year now. This allows me to use 8GB of RAM which makes some of the newer games run smoother. -

snap.. should i even shell out that shipping cost of 30 dollar just to get my ul30a1 32bit win7 os or should i just wait and buy win7 64bit....hmmmm

Asus switches all their units to 64-bit Operating Systems - It's about time!
