I filled up as much memory as i could in these two machines and thought it might help someone else.
W2P
if you put 2 x 2gb sticks
bios will give you 2.75gb (disappointing)
U1F
512mb onboard an a 2gb stick
bios will give you 2422mb
add a sandisk 32gb ssd to the u1f and the extra memory and it turns into a very responsive machine in vista.

Errr for any non Vista 64 notebook, the max you can use is 3.2gb anyways. The W2 only shows 2.7gb because of the TurboCache.
The U1f has its hardware limit at 2422 because of the onboard RAM and the VRam siphoned.
Both are well known facts.... -
my post was about bios amounts as indicated. vista version doesnt come into it. you'll get no more than 2.75gb whether vista 64 or vista 32.
if turbocache is hyper memory i find it interesting that version 204 of the bios doesnt give any more than that. as 205's notes say that it enables hypermemory function. w2p sales literature claims 256mb real and 256mb from main memory. for some reason it's assigning 1.25gb to devices.
to what devices and how much is what i'd like to know. from my perspective there's room for improvement in the bios. -
does anyone think Asus will update the bios to reconize the 4gb RAM (2x 2gb) for the w2p?
-
So, if I understand this correctly the Asus U1F does support a 2GB stick of SO-DIMM?
This would make the machine a lot faster. Is a normal 1x2048 MB PC5300 DDR2 sufficient?
Asus u1f and w2p max memory by bios
