I've been following news of this lovely laptop all summer. My current machine is seriously dying - I really need to get a new laptop, the u80v is the right stuff for the right price, and I want one. But I can't wait forever.

So far I've been unable to find it anywhere... I know there's an old post about someone who got it in Singapore, but that's some of the only information I can find.

Has this computer ever been on sale in the US? Amazon had it? Did anyone get it? Do you Asus experts have any idea when it will be obtainable for those of us in the USA? Did I totally miss some retailer who is actually selling it online?

And.... what are the chances of the base price being $899 as reported by Engadget so long ago? :)

It was available on Amazon for $960 for a short while. Asus pulled it for some reason.

Is that the MSRP here in US? Seems quite a bit compared to the available ones like ul30/50.
