I ordered Asus ux32vd from Osaka (Japan) in Feb 2nd and its arrived at Feb 6th.
Its been 3 times my laptop suddenly shut down and I dont know why.
do you (ux32vd user) feel the same?

    one more,
there is a scratch on my touchpad when I open this laptop for the first time
should I send it back to the shop or what?

    Thanks guys

Can you provide more details? Does it shut down when running on battery or ac adapter - or both? Are you doing anything specific/is there a pattern to it when it shuts down?

The scratch shouldn't affect the touchpad's response, and it may have been from transit damage. But in the end, if you are concerned/displeased about it, you can contact your reseller/retailer or Asus and request an exchange.

I have the same problem. For me it happens both plugged in and unplugged. After a few hours of work OR inactivity. I don't have to use it heavily to happen.
My laptop is in use for only two weeks. And these shutdowns didn't occur in the first week but it happened 3 times this week. Yesterday it was just left open on the table, and when I went back I saw that it restarted itself. Today I worked on it when it happened. I'm quite frustrated... It may be a heat problem but I haven't feel any hotness. (One reason why it may be heat problem and why it hasn't happened the first week: I used it only for shorter periods due to a trip I was on.. now I use it for full days..)
Or it may be a RAM failure but I tested it yesterday with memtest86 and it couldn't find any problem.
Should I bring it back to the service? It's my second laptop.. They changed the first one because of faulty lid opening.

    Hey kynu,

Check your Windows Event Viewer (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer). It may or may not provide information on the cold shutdown. If you didn't get any BSOD, then unfortunately there will be no minidumps to analyze, so the Event Viewer is your next best bet before troubleshooting.

Thanks for your tip! I do check the event logs when this happens... but it doesn't help a lot.
For example at yesterday's shut down (which happened in the middle of my work) there's not even 1 warning message about it.
I made an image composite with the warning messages AFTER the shut down.. Nothing indicates the cause as far as I can tell. Could you please take a look at it?

Hmm, given the information there, I'd say it's one of two things: one or more faulty memory modules, or a problem with the ACPI driver/configuration. Try updating/reinstalling your chipset driver - if it's ACPI related, that might resolve it. Additionally, you can try testing your memory with MemTest86+. Physically removing the modules and trying to recreate the problem with one installed at a time is more ideal in troubleshooting RAM, but MemTest86+ runs no risk of voiding your warranty and is pretty good about catching problems; just let it run long enough to at least complete 2 passes.

hey thanks! I actually tried memtest86. It didn't find any problem. So now I'll look into this ACPI driver thing.
I have an important question though: if my laptop would restart because of a too hot cpu, would I see that mentioned in the event logs?

Whoops! I just realized you stated trying MemTest86 in your previous post. :)

It won't log the temps, so you would probably only see an event saying something along the lines of: "Windows did not shut down properly." You can use HWinfo though to log your temps (not simply monitor, but actually record them).
