    Hey

On the verge of making a decision between v2s and f8sa/sv - cannot decide!

I know this issue has been discussed in this forum before - but i note that it was on the basis of the v2s having the 8600M GS GPU. But for those of us in Australia - it actually comes with the 8600M GT version!

So now it appears that the graphics performance of the v2s is level with the f8 series...

    Need help!!!

Main difference is supposedly build quality. But since the F8 build quality is above the typical F quality, and the V2 is not quite so good, I'd say they are similar.

Are you sure that the Australian V2S comes with 8600 GT? IIRC it's been discussed some time ago that the "GT" was really "GS". They mistated the specs.

aside from the vga card in the use the difference is in
    warranty (v2s has 3 years)
    hdmi port (f8 has none)
    dock option (f8 haqs none)
build and aesthetics (v2 is the lighter more expensive to make)
    thats about it

I'm looking to make the same choice. Is it possible to use 2 external monitors since both laptops have a VGA and HDMI/DVI port?

i do not believe both vga and dvi ports can be used with nview at the same time like you can on a desktop vga card.

v2s also has a 9 cell battery option, I do not think the f8 has this opition. You will get more usage time with the v2s

V2S also has a spill proof keyboard and better metallic look overall. F8SV's casing material underneath the lid (around the keyboard) looks...well... plastic with a silver color which doesn't really go well with it's reflective black lid.

and then again, hox and E.B.E mentioned build quality and battery....so if you REALLY can get the 8600mGT version (please check on this) then by all means I'd suggest getting V2S since V series are supposed to be better than F series.

Having said that , I'm an owner of a F8Sv and loving it ^_^ plays all the newest games etc etc.

    thanks people

i rekon that robohgedhang is right - there has been a lot of discussion in the aussie forums about Asus falsely marketing the v2s with the 8600 GT whereas in reality it only comes with the 8600 GS - sneaky b.....ds

to make matters worse it seems that ASUS used a 64bit memory bus for the graphics card instead of a 128bit memory bus as well

even so - i dont really have time for games any more - so this is not really a big deal to me at the end of the day

v2s has many other advantages eg 9 cell batt option etc

    opinions??

My dad got himself a V2S over the weekend for his business (apparently spillproof keyboard is very important and appealing to him lol he doesn't even drink coffee)

basically I played around, tweaking some settings... and yeah specs are now confirmed

    Core2duo T7300 2.0Ghz
    2GB DDR2 667MhZ ram
    160GB sata
    NVidia 8600m TC1024MB

now the thing to note is...even though it's not a 8600m "GT" , the 1024mb turbo cache still caught my eye so I tried some games on it and compared them to my F8SV with 8600mGT , to be honest I dun see much difference in graphics performance.... games still run properly and FPS was around 5~7 frames lower. (CoD4, GoW, CoH, UT3)

I'd say this is a pretty good choice considering it's longer battery life and more solid chassis build.

    Hope my comment helps.

I have been trying to make the same decision as you are, one more thing that makes me not wanting to get the F8SV is its keyboard, it has the "Fn" key on the far left, while the V2S has the Ctrl key on the far left (which I LOVE/prefer).
But 8600M "GT" is really tempting...

Oh come on, don't base your decision on the location of the Fn key :) You will get used to it in at most two days.

If gaming is not an issue and an intell x3100 will do you, then why are we discussing the merits of a better GPU?

IMO since graphics is not an issue go for build quality and features - the V2 with extra warranty, spillproof keyboard , bigger battery and dock option offers more than the F8.

you may be looking at worng pics of the keyboard. as i know rthe pics of the v2s are slightly wrong. check our forum video section. it has live videos of all the above models. you should find the actual v2 keyboard is slightly different
