    Hey Folks
First i will start with the bad news.
The current 62j or 62f series will not support merom fully ever. 62jm and 62fm will support merom and already do however they have not hit shelves yet.
w3j, v6j, and w7j are now available with merom as a customize option only. They are not yet standard but we are shipping them with meroms starting today for anyone who wants to pay extra for early shipment. Eventually "someday" hopefully this year they will ship with entry level meroms as a base.

Ok, since this was only posted an hour ago... and I've already gotten emails about it... please state that this mod you're doing is yourself and not from asus and therefore voids their global warranty and is therefore covered by you... if for no other reason than saving my sanity and getting people to stop ask us the same thing.

Hi Eddie, are you saying that you are shipping W3J with merom starting today? Does that mean that the merom-enabled bios update for W3J is already available?

Clearly says so on our site. It links to our dealer warranty and clearly states that it is a dealer warranty.

Eddie, you should know by now that people are lazy and don't get that far.. they read what you write and absorb about 60-70% of what you typed... and come to their own conclusions..... Basically, that's to send off a quick email to find out if our shipment of W3jp's arrived yet....... that's all I'm saying and your response is enough for me.

    Have a good weekend Ed

Point well taken. It wont affect me though. If someone someday calls and says "asus refused to warranty my system" i will tell them that their warranty is with us not asus. I ll keep good faith that people do read and understand but yes not everyone does their research

    Yes it is
I am still testing it. Once i finish i will ask asus for permission to release it. FOr now they asked me not to. its not up on their global site yet.

A bit OT here, Eddie... do you happen to know if there's one with Merom support for the A8Jm in the works?

Not too sure yet. I think that will hit a bit later. Its also possible that it will not come. Both have an nvidia card. if they share the same chipset and sound as the 62j they will not have an update.

been looking for a thin 15.4'' Asus with core 2 duo but doesn't exist. even the v1j with 15.4" screen in the UK isn't core 2. only certain countries have a stock core 2 v1j supposedly. but merchants in other euro countries let you upgrade to it. that is strange that only euorope gets the v1j and then only certain countries in europe get a version that comes with c2d.

anyway i would settle for a core 2 v6j. where can I get one and how much more of a rip will it be then the already expensive non core 2 v6j, which is more then many other laptops which have better specs.

no its definately breaking $2000 especially with ram and hard drive but i'm going to try to keep those low. ram can be upgraded later. but hard drive wo uld mean reinstalling everything transferring hm. maybe 100gb is enough though.

all i was getting on my ideal DEll was 160

hm i see the V1j does come in core 2 duo, but i guess its only availble in europe. would any of those merchants ship to the uS? would it be fully compatible?

its expensive though, guess i'll stick with upgrading the v6j to merom and its only .3 inches less if the v6j is really 15.1

v6j is the only thin laptop on the site upgradeable to merom right?

what other merchants/sites are offering this so i can compare price before pulling the trigger.

I've heard no news info that there will be an official v6j release with merom. supposedly the lambo vx model is getting a merom update.

mine as well ge a v6j stock and get a c2d cpu later.
