Hey Guys i was looking at the W3V on Newegg and saw that it said it had 128mb of dedicated VRAM, everywhere else claims 64mb VRAM and 64mb shared. Is this an error sense Asus builds the ensemble line anyway? Has anybody purchased this notebook from them?

No, it doesn't...... 64mb dedicated....... up to an additional 512mb of system memory can be used through hypermemory w/ 1.5-2.0gb of system ram.
Aside from that information, I'm not sure what the question is, so I can't answer it for you, but there is only one W3v in this hemisphere. -
Newegg commonly gets things wrong. They have Pentium M's listed as socket 478 CPUs instead of 479, totally incomatible sockets.
It's most likely an error. -
Thanks guys, that makes more sense. Now would it be better to put 1 GB (512x2) or 1.5 GB (512mb+1gb). Isn't it best to match RAM sizes with DDR2? Also does the X600 really share up to 512 mb? All of the spec sheets i have seen say up to 128mb of "hypermemory"

If you can use more than 1gb......... then you'll see more performance out of the 1.5 than you would with the 1gb running in dual channel.
I do this for a living and as a hobby....... I've broken down the hypermemory numbers in another thread..... let me see if I can find it and bring it back up to the forefront. -

Oh.. also, w/ just 512mb, yeah, I think it's 128mb..... since they're sold as sealed, single configuration units.... that would be a good number to give.

Actually Mike, there is a line of confusion there that not all of us can pick up on. See, we get all of these questions about 128mb of ram on all of the systems..... Us for instance, will list the dedicate amount of graphics because that is what people are buying. When hypermemory becomes more apparent to normal folks, dropping the line, 64mb dedicated / up to another 512mb shared - 596mb total.... might work well. But for us, just me being in this forum as shown that those who know what they're talking about don't need that and those who don't........ get super confused.
You have to admit, this whole dedicated and shared at the same time thing isn't what people are used to and just seeing the word shared then makes people question if the original 64mb is really dedicated........ it goes around and around. -
Yes I totally agree. That's why premier dealers like yourself would have the correct specs posted up and not only that- a ton of pictures too. Other resellers like CDW or NewEgg may only list "64mb video, lan, modem" and may not even have a picture, but you guys would list it out in detail because you know your product, much more than the other guys. If it's 64mb dedicated + 64hyper, I want to hear it. If it's Intel Pro2200, I want to hear that too. I want to know exactly what I'm getting into. There are many other laptops that have integrated video only, I dont see them listing it as 0mb video. That's why the Z70V should be listed with 128 or at least 64mb + 64 hyper (like how some dealers have posted it). But I only used that as an example. All I'm saying is, that big name resellers screw up on the description/specs or dont even list them because they aren't as dedicated to a product like you or other premier dealers are.

Thanks justin and mike, i think i will order 1Gb extra...

Do you have to have 1.5gb of ram to get 512mb of shared ram? Like if i up my system to 1gb of ram will my shared ram go up to 256mb? or 192mb?
-
I decided 1.5gb would be overkill for what i do with my W3V. 1gb should be enough to run AIM and mutliple firefox windows while burning a dvd.... i hope.

I just brought my post to the front page again........ look at the last post, I reposted what I said at the begining.
Incase you don't want to look, with a gig of ram, you'll have 256mb that you can share off the system memory and that's a total of 320mb w/ the dedicated 64 added.
1gb is certainly enough to do all of what you want to do times probably 4. Check how many resources are being used right now. -
Do i have to enable it to share more memory when i add another stick of ram or is it done automatically?

No, with the newest bios, it should show up automatically. You're not pulling that memory all of the time. That is the memory that is allowed to be used if you fill up the dedicated 64mb........ then it'll start pulling more as it needs it. It's not like you've got 512mb less to use for the system, all of the time. Chances are, unless you're a heavy, heavy 3d renderer, you'll never come close to using 1/2 of what it'll allow you to use.
