Here is a link to an Asus w7j with 100 gig hd and Windows XP Pro for $1,395. Does anyone know if this is a reputable seller? This looks too good to be true.

Yes they are a reputable seller. Here is their Resellerratings page:

I wouldn't say it's too good to be true. It's only 50-100 less then most of the other sellers out there. Plus, imo, with that configuration it shouldn't cost $1500 anyway. Good find. -
Wow, thats a really god price!
-
I'm assuming that's USD or I'm just gonna freak.
Does it do Canadian dollars? -
Just sent them an email to see how much it will cost shipped to Vancouver, B.C. I'll update you guys when they get back to me.
--------
-------- -
It gave three shipping options to Toronto, UPS Express - $103.69, UPS Expedited - $93.81, and USPS Global - $78.00. -
There is another link on the same site that lists the came notebook for $1435?
-
-
I don't understand one thing, if I go to the eWiz web site and search for the W7J the price is $ 1,436.85 and if I follow Brians link the price is $ 1,395.00. This is strange!
-
Hmmm... very wierd.
Any answers?

crikes....what to do what to do

If that was the case, i'd pick it up in a second. But you also have to deal with broker fees, duties and applicable taxes. Its a lot more complicated than shipping charges alone.
Example: When the W3J came out, I contacted UPS for the shipping costs. I can't remember the exact figures, but it would have cost over $2400CAD on a product marked $1898 CAD ($1699 USD).
I'm concidering using my cross border friend as a relay point. Just get it shipped to him, have him repackage the product and ship it across from there. Either that or I'll get him to cover it in wrapping paper and drive it across. LoL -
Ok, I've ordered from ewiz before, I actually got my barebones m5n from them, and also the ram, which I RMAd because I fried it. Pretty good service. One thing though, is that they call you on the phone to confirm your order if you do it by credit card (I think for really expensive orders). Good for them, but a bit of a hassle on the buyers' side. At least it doesn't foster identity theft.
The price discrepancy is because (I think) of the link you followed. If it has the right referrer, in this case, I think it was froogle, it gives you a discount. At least that's how it worked when I bought my m5n. Regardless, I think buying from ProPortable might be the same, because of free shipping (for you ASUS forum users). -
I did a search via froogle and got this price. I do agree that this is a bit strange.

I just placed my order and so far so good. My total price was $1417 shipped UPS ground to Delaware. I called them after placing my order and spoke with an informative customer service agent who was a pleasure to deal with. Since this was my first purchace, and such a high priced item, he stated a confirmed signature was needed before any further action could be taken. Within several minutes he sent me an invoice via e-mail. Now all I need to do is sign and fax it back. Like I said... so far so good.
Thanks.

It's almost a hundred cheaper here, I don't see a reason to order it from other places.
-
Because of the wellspring of knowledge and the helpfulness of the employees? Also, because you ask all these questions, and Justin from ProPortable and Eddie from Geared2Play answer them promptly... also Danny from MilestonePC. I mean, Justin gives you free 2-day fedex shipping, which is pretty sweet, if you've been on the asus forum a while. There's more to a good purchase than the price. It's also about the quality of service. And who's gonna screw you when you want warranty work done.
I have actually never purchased from any of those three resellers I mentioned, but I've gotten a lot of answers from them. Justin has sent me a free fan replacement for my m5n, even when I was willing to pay. Free shipping too. Can't beat that for service, can you? -
I understand that they offer great service and if I were them I would take advantage of this forum to boost my sales too. Most likely, regular consumers will purchase from a reputant vendors with almost a hundred cheaper. And I'm sure all the questions that have been asked can be found on the internet if you look hard enough or know how to search.
-
Right... but what's a hundred dollars when you're dropping 1400 already? Just seems a little stupid to quibble about that kind of cash when you know you're supporting a retailer that deals primarily in Asus. A bit like shopping at wal-mart vs. a green grocer for your fruits and veggies. Sure you can save 10 bucks, but you're killing your local economy.
-
I dont know about u philibuster but for someone like me a 100 dollars is quite a bit !! in fact a hundred dollars can make all the difference between my selection of vendors or notebook for that matter.... for a hundred dollars i can buy a 320GB external seagate drive ... i dont know but I tend to think that way... dont have too much cash to throw around.
I was about to order from ewiz ... i followed a link from pricewatch that showed the price to be 1395 and free shipping !! just as i entered my order and clicked checkout it said TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK... i emailed ewiz... they told me to wait a couple of days.... now... 2 days later its back in stock but this time follwoing the same link its for 1437 + 50 shipping... a price hike of almost $100 in 2 days !! and this keeping in mind that people have bought this off the same site for 1350 !
Initially I wanted to buy a W3J (thats the one i like) but just didnt have the cash... i thought the price difference between the W3J at 1800/- and W7J at 1395/- is $405 which is quite a bit and decided on the W7J.... now with the W7J costing me close to 1500/- that price difference doesnt seem that much so I might as well wait... save some more... and get the W3J... i mean it just adds to the confusion if u get what i mean ! -

The higher price is the result from high presure from Asus, $1350 (and customers can pay credit card) has no profit at all and even below cost for many dealers, I know the reason why they could do that price but I cannot say it here.
The fact made Asus mad was that price totally ruined the market( made other dealers couldn't move W7J ) and they only sold A FEW of W7J, this was the worst part. If they sold at that price($1350) and helped Asus moved all the inventory out, Asus might be not that frustrated.
If a dealer sells low, Asus deosn't care, but if a dealer lists price low, Asus cares allot. -
thanks milestone.. i think i saw on one of the website where it said if your order of w7j's is less than 100 its for 1400 and something each
if order is more than 100 unites the price was astonishingly low.. early 1300's -
-
i dunno about this... simple econ principles .... high demand ... lower price !
i think ewiz had it right...
its difficult to understand how 8-10 websites offering exactly the same price (1499) expect to compete with each other ?!? its like waiting for a user to stumble across them or something, is it... doesnt really make business sense to me.
anybody know a dealer that would include something free in the standard price of 1499 ?? like a spare standard battery perhaps ?? leme know... i need to buy this baby asap -

This way is common everywhere, same as when you buy a new car, you can only see MSRP listed, but you can bargain with them. -
Well i started this thread and I purchased from ewiz for $1395. could'nt be happier.
