hello,
If I open the panel on my Asus F3Ja, to check for dust, will it void the warranty? Where is the warranty sticker?
Thanks!
PS: Please do not make fun of my username, I was in a rush when filling out the registration form.![]()

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
The warranty sticker is over the cpu heatsink screw. As long as that stays intact, you will be fine, opening the panels does not affect the warranty
.

Also check the Info Booth for a cooling guide by coriolis, and make sure you clean those heatsink fins (if you can indeed get to them without removing the heatsink from the CPU).

hello,
Could anybody actually tell me how to open the panel? I see a fair number of screws, and I don't want to unscrew the wrong ones.
Also, I see there is only one panel. I thought there is normally several on laptops? -
hello,
I got the following message from support:
Dear Customer,
If you open the unit you will break the warranty stickers. It`s mean you can void the warranty.
Kind Regards

What's going on? :S
I don't see any stickers on the outside, on the panel, so how on earth can it be broken by simply removing the panel? -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. The Asus customer service rep who replied is simply incorrect; no other way to state it. Ensemble units are never meant to be opened, from their perspective, but the only warranty stickers are internal and are attached to the components, not the panel (so you can't break them by removing the panel).
2. Asus is one of several manufacturers who seem to be shifting toward a non-modular bottom panel design (i.e. a single panel). The F3j could be one of them, I'm not sure. In any event, any screws on the bottom not labeled 'K' for keyboard would likely need to come off in order for the panel to be removeable. You could try posting a request for precise info in the F3 Owner's thread here. -
Thanks man, I appreciate your help!

I don't think ASUS will ever find out if you just opened the back pannel to remove dust.
There is no sticker usually on the back pannel which break to void guarantee.
On my F3JP I have open it a number of time.
In fact I also removed the keyboard one time.
The notebook has already been to ASUS after that and no complains from them as it is not easy for them to findout that I have opened the notebook.
Of course if I break one of the sticked for example on the CPU heat sink than they will happily void my guarantee. -
just make sure you dont make a mess of the screws when you open them up
