I'm mailing the email and a copy of the receipt to Taiwan. (Taiwan! that's like 3-4 stamps :( ). I'm only doing this because I don't have a scanner, next time I'm buying an all-in-one printer >.<.

Do you have to go through asus or can you show best buy your receipt and get a copy or something? Best Buy says they give free upgrade, but is it just through asus?

    From BB's site:

Upgrade for qualifying PC purchase will ship free from your PC's manufacturer.
For offer details, select your manufacturer's Web site.

So you do have to go through Asus. I wish we could just fill out the form with our SN and leave it at that...

As far as I have seen, even on best buys website, they say theyre pretty much out of the loop on ur OS upgrades. I belive this is because Microsoft basically set up the upgrade arrangement with the computer manufacturers directly, cutting out the middle men of retailers. but anyway, best buy makes note to list "manufacturers with hardware that are participating in the upgrade service" basically.

frustrating, since im almost positive, asus' will be the most difficult to deal with/get compared to the others.

I am happy to see asus up there with heavy hitting american computer companies such as dell and gateway now. nearly 3 years ago when i got my g1, everyone said " is an asus? dont u mean acer?" and now i see asus' in best buys circulars in the papers every week.

i dont think they will be difficult. asus shouldnt be loosing any money in this, i think this is purely microsoft giving out free os to try to keep people buying pcs that didnt like vista.

i completely aggree with you, i was just basing my assumption off the fact that if one of them were to mess up/complicate this process, it would be asus due to the fact that theyre just starting to gain actual attention here in the states, and are dedicating more time/money/effort to us over here, recently I've seen a lot more work go into supporting their american patrons, although some partially broken english can still be found in some manuals and pdfs, theyre making steps in the right direction.

I did the web registration, got the confirmation reply, and sent the proof of purchase via email (scans) to the address they provided, but I got a bounce, twice.

Did you finally get the email through shempmalone?

Maybe they're receiving too many emails that some are starting to bounce?

It's a multi-step process. First you fill out your information using that site you posted. Then you print out the confirmation page they give you at the end of completing that online form. After that you're suppose to send in the page you printed with the proof of purchase (receipt). You can send it in through e-mail, fax, or mail.

Ah, i see... that makes sense since they will need to verify your proof of purchase.

Nope, but I'm not sure how big of a deal it is. Acer is using the same company and requires no proof of purchase. I guess the serial number is good enough for them.
